Hey guys,
I have a question about my speedometer, its the absolute last thing I need working before I go for my saftey.. so I am trying to get it working right this weekend.. I got a new speedometer sensor in and I took the old one out and I probed it with a mulitmeter to test .. and it went to full .. this is the old one.. so I took the new one out and it did the same thing.. then when I spun the little device at the bottom it dropped a little .. did the same for both sensors.. I am unsure if this is a good way of testing if they work or not .. I am just looking for some input on what I should maybe do next to get it working or if the way I tested them was correct? Lemme know guys!!
Thanks,
Kyle

Perhaps I can help Kyle explain his case here, since our phone conversation. Kyle has a 94 with a swapped in 92 dashboard. He's not sure if the instrument pod came along with the transfer. First we've got to determine if there are no technical/electrical differences between the 92 and 94 instrument pods, so confirmation from the community is needed on that. He's running a ZE MTX. As he has said he's installed a new speedo sensor believing that was the root of the problem. Apparently not because post purchase of new sensor has determined that the sensor test of the old and new sensor by turning the gear with a voltmeter on the 2 connectors has determined to be both serviceable. He has to do the subsequent test with a voltmeter on the 2 connectors that go to the instrument pod on the 12 and 10 pin harnesses. Has anyone done this before? I've advised him that if no current is present than it's between there and the sensor, which I think will be highly unlikely.
As a footnote, he also had some problems with no gas guage readings and something else on the instrumant pod and that had been traced to severe scraping on the back of the pod to the circuit board which he later remedied by jumping a wire across that broken circuit on the circuit board. I'm thinking that further circuit board damage may also be the fault in this situation, but that's very difficult to determine. It may come down to going to a J/Y and sourcing another instrument pod. Aside from staying away from the 4 cyl pods due to the mechanical speedo, what are his options/limitations as far as what intrument pod he can or can't use from the J/Y? Suggestions/recommendations as far as inherent complications that are part n parcel with a dashboard swap would be appreciated. On behalf of Kyle, thanks.

John.. I can get my shop manual and see what I can find on the 94 GS gauge pod.. between my 94 manual and your 92 manual.. we may be able to see what differences if any exsist between the two. I'll scan and e-mail you the pertinent pages in the next hour or so. Cheers.

Cool!!, perhaps email too since I can also pass it on to Kyle. It appears that he has inheritted someone else's bag of problems where someone attempted a ZE swap and a dash swap and kind of got over their head and pooched a lot of electical items which Kyle is slowly trying to remedy. He's slowly making gains and unfortunately the problems he's encountering aren't your normal run of the mill faults that occur over time and wear and tear, but rather man made which make it that much more difficult to fault find.Tunes67 wrote:John.. Eric, I had to refer to the "Body Electrical Troubleshooting Manual", page C1-6

Let me know if there are any other pages you need to reference man. Easy enough to scan them in and e-mail.
