Curious to see who has this issue... Part 2

Post by Tunes67 »

Just a follow up to the other poll post which asked you folks who has electrical system problems.. like your headlights dimming when your brakes are applied.. or changes in RPM speed when accessories are turned on or off. This post asks how many of you with the problem have the ATX or MTX trans. Still just looking for a common denominator is all. Thanks for your participation :)

only weird problem i can't seem to figure out is when I tap the brake to light up the taillights and its night time, my indiglo guage cluster damn near dims to black for a split second. If I hit the brake and light the taillights on & off, on & off quickly the guages only dim the first time and don't unlese I let off the brakes for moe than a few seconds.

Other than that I have no erratic idle EVER or any other issues I'm concerned about

My gauge lights do exactly the same thing Gro.. but my headlights also do that. Dims when I first hit the brake, but if I let off and tap it a few times nothing dims.. I also dont have any idle issues.. my car is ATX for the moment. Also they only dim for the briefest of moments now.. after upgrading the charge cable from the alternator to the positive battery terminal the dimming is less pronounced and very brief. I have another alternator I will swap in eventually.. but its not really annoying me as much as when I first got the car (it was much worse before doing the ground cable upgrade).

I have a 93 4cyl auto. My lights do the same thing as everyone else's. I suppose the alt. "catches up" after you hit the brakes the first time? Because if I hit the brakes and let the lights dim, then wait a little bit and try again, they still dim. Hitting the brakes repeatedly doesn't seem to dim the lights as much after the first time.

I'm curious...any of you guys who have done an alt. swap or had your alt. rewound for more amps...do you guys STILL have this problem, or did a new/rewound alt. correct it at all?

Its called "inrush" current and is made worse the first time because the filament is cold.
