has anyone gone through the trouble of replacing all of your interior light bulbs with another color?
what i mean is, removing your gauge cluster, and replacing the green bulbs that are back there with bulbs of another color (red/blue) then doing the same for the climate controls?
ive replaced my dome lights with blue, and im going tonight to buy some blue bulbs to go into the back of the cluster, just to see how well it will light up. i know that the bulbs have a green condom on them, but i dont know if there is also a green lens in front of the lights. guess ill be finding out tonight after work
It is just plain stupid, your car would looklike a stripclub. And you will completely lose the functionality of the lights, i say this off experience. If you want to change color, go with blue, but find a very bright type of light, but be careful that the bulb wont overheat and melt your housing.
as for functionality, same brightness...maybe a lil brighter. and as for overheating and melting the housing, wal-mart carries the exact bulb replacements...in red/blue/green. they are GE brand lights, #194 (194B=blue, 194G=green, etc), $2.97 for 2. exact fit, exact size, everything.
the actual color isnt that different from the green...i mean, there is a color shade difference, but after it filters through the white on the gauges its not as noticeable as i would like. (going for the VW effect) but yeah, just as bright as before. if someone was going with a red color scheme, i think the bulbs would work really well in there.
also, if you just want to brighten up your gauge cluster for free...take the green bulbs out (theres like 5 or 6 that are green, and 2 or 3 that are clear) and just remove the green bulb cover that is on there...makes a big difference in the brightness department.
i took off all of the green rubber off my bubls in my cluster and they were still green, i tihnk the stock guages between the black there is a green film... i thought you couldn't get rid of that can you... ?

im with you on that, i think thats why i didnt notice as much of a color change. i will be taking about my instrument cluster here in a bit to find out
You can't really see it in this pic, but if you look closely at the trip odometer, you can see some red shining through. I don't have them on very bright.
I will snap a better picture later on...i was going to do a install how-to on this stuff in the future. I need to disassemble my cluster anyways b/c the plexi cover is messed up and some of the red bulbs are bleeding through the indiglo gauge on the far right, and i wanted to block out the light from shining through there.
