Need a new CD/MP3 player... suggestions?
Need a new CD/MP3 player... suggestions?
Hi guys,
My Pioneer DEH-P4000 CD player needs replacing - a set of preamps just blew out and now I only have sound on one side of the car.
I have mostly Pioneer equipment in my car, but I was thinking of branching out a little. I really like the look of the new Panasonic units, but I know very little about them. In particular, I'm looking at the CQ-DFX983U. I've read some reviews, looked at the specs, etc, but I'd like to get some feedback if anyone uses Panasonic products.
If I stick with Pioneer, I like the DEH-P8500MP. Any comments on this model? I'm open to suggestions to other brands/models, so please feel free to post them!
Thanks.
Hank

whats your price range? Alpine makes some of the finest head units in the world. I recently bought the CDA-7894 and i love it. I bought it for 300 shipped on ebay and it sells for 500 in stores.

I haven't ruled out Alpine, but I always thought they were a bit overpriced for what I needed. The two models I listed above run about $215-$280 on Ebay, so anywhere in that price range would be good.

at 60 watts per channel, i'd say they're not overpriced (on ebay) :p

I'd second the Clarion. If you've got a black interior, a silver faced unit would be tacky IMO. Clarion DXZ825MP plays WMA and MP#, has 4 volt preouts, and has a classy, low key black face. You can also change the display color to match your gauges.
Re: Need a new CD/MP3 player... suggestions?
i've had no problems with my jvc unit and would definately recomend any jvc or clarion as stated above!

I also think the Pioneers are very classy, and the P8400/8500 are especially nice-looking. Thanks for the photo.
I've got my dash painted silver, so it would match a silver-faces deck very well.
How about those new "ghost" touch screen decks by Panasonic, like the CQ-HX2083U? High Power at 60 peak watts x 4, and it's very sleek. I just don't know how functional the touch screen display is. I usually rely a lot on the feel of the buttons while I'm driving, so it may not be a great choice.
I have a Crutchfield catalog in front of me right now, and the Clarions, JVCs and Alpines are all very cool as well. *Sigh* So many choices...

That and i hated the remote that came with it, the buttons have no real feel or easy i-cant-find-the-right-button-without-looking unlike my my old pioneer 520 remote or my new wheel remote, so i needed to look at it to find where i was pressing, using the buttons on the deck was easier that the stock remote
[ September 04, 2003: Message edited by: Nd4SpdSe ]
[ September 04, 2003: Message edited by: Nd4SpdSe ]
[ September 04, 2003: Message edited by: Nd4SpdSe ]

Re: Need a new CD/MP3 player... suggestions?
Hehehe... very cool.
I was about to buy a steering wheel remote for my deck, but now that it's toast, I'll have to hold off. But I think it's a must for the touch screen deck, unless you want to risk looking all the way down there each time (we all know how far down the radio is from the windshield in the MX) and fumbling for the right place to put your finger.
... uh, that didn't sound quite right ...
But you know what I mean.
