Air Conditioning is causing Clicking and Erratic idle.

Hi everyone -

Below is a link to a video of my 1995 MX-3 1.6 idling. In the video my fans are on because I've turned my AC on. After I rev the engine at about 0:19 of the video, you will hear the click about once per second. I'm assuming it's a fuse.

Once you here the click is when my car drops it's idle and climb back up to about 1K rpms, then all over again. There's rattling you'll hear as well when my engine shakes after it drops the idle down to about 200 rpms.

Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGQ7HMGu4cc

Any idea, help and/or comment will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The compressor just seems like its done for. Have you done ANY thing to the engine lately or an A/C work?

You can tell the a/c compressor keeps cutting on and off. :confused2:

maybe the a/c relay is no good

^^^^^^ compressor isn't working properly
so either it is shot or there isn't enough refrigerant in it to work properly
when was the last time you had it topped up or serviced??

kulluminati777: I haven't done anything to the engine lately. As far as I can remember, the AC has been doing this since I've owned the car back in 2008.

Tavman_1213: I've topped off my refrigerant sometime in 2009. Since then the AC would blow ice cold.

Thanks for your time in helping me think outside. I'll definitely have another look at it this afternoon.

You really need to put an A/C manifold on the A/C system and check to see what is your low/high side pressures are on the A/C system.
