Code 5 KLDE and misfire

Can't seem to shake this code. It was coming on in the morning. After about 10 mins of driving the light would go off and stay off until the car cooled down. Now the light comes on and stays on. Ive checked the obvious things like the connector and for any broken wires. I cant seem to find a flow chart/troubleshooter for code 5... Any help?

Code 5 should be knock sensor

I know this. But I don't want to pull the intake if I don't have to. I am leaning toward the misfire being related to the code..but i dont know what i need to do to test it.

Don't have to. The connector for the KS is on the left side of the engine. I can't find the specs at the moment (it is xmas eve after all) but searching I found people say it's either around 330 or 560ohms. Ironically the Xterra is also 560, if you split the min and max difference, which apparently changes with temperature, so don't be surprised if it's a bit different, but check the online manual for the true specs.

Check resistance and continuity on the knock sensor this morning and got no reading. Sound plausible? Are the knock sensors a common problem? I see some posts made but the search function is so hit or miss.... $146 for a new knock sensor....

Got rid of the misfire. One of my wires was arcing. Ordered new NGK wires on the 5th from a member here. But the code is still present. I hate CEL's. :welder: :welder:

Code is still present because you didn't fix the knock sensor issue, just the misfire, which is unrelated to a bad/non-existant knock sensor.

You can took up a knock sensor externally or use a resistor to trick it. Those are 2 options that the Xterra/Frontier guys do because the KS is burried and with shop time it's over a grand in labour to replace it and they are prone to failure.

Ill try to google search it and see if I can find a resistor trick. I'd rather do that, than buy another $125+ knock sensor. I don't mind doing the work to change out the knock sensor. I do this stuff for a living. I just cant seem to find the info on testing the sensor.

What's supposed to be normal resistance reading for knock sensor?

I found a reference of someone saying 500-600ohms, but here's a good post on PT. He says 5000ohms

Intake is easy to remove. I removed one and torqued to the max when I reinstalled it and the old gaskets worked fine. Don't you have to remove the coolant pipe as well, that might be a pain.

I'm friends with Stoker100. We bypassed the knock sensor on my car with a resistor and I've been reaping the rewards for years.

And yes removing the IM and all that coolant piping for a bulls--- knock sensor is bulls---. These engines don't knock and I've advanced my timing map quite a lot too without issue.
