Fiberglass the top opening just under the hood.
Put some aluminium bars in the big opening.

I wouldn't use alu. unless properly treated it will oxidize over time and look wank.
either stainless bars (heavy) or chrome plated mild steel > go to your local tip a pull apart a few
desks/tables, chair BBQ's etc .

there are companies out there that sell bars like this just for this purpose, you can find them if you do a google search. or you can go to the hardware store and pickup a shower rod and cut it down to size... probably a cheaper more affordable option.
