Unlucky, that's not very nice at all. I don't know how it works over there but here it would be a case of calling the cops and they'd soon get the info from the recovery company.

The cops can not get this information by their own.(the plate number)You need to hire a lawyer and go in court to bring down the privacy policy and get the information which could make years to start the trial..

What? How is that possible? How can they escort the guy out of there and then prevent you from legally pursuing him for damages as you're supposed to? Who the hell makes up those laws.

He committed a crime by leaving the scene and since they towed him that's called aiding and abetting isn't it. If he was drunk they should of called the cops. No wonder your country is in so much trouble, too many crooked people.

I agree with Dan.
Go to the police, and file a report for a hit and run, and drunk driving, and another one against the tow company for aiding and abetting a felon (hit and run is a felony, and so is leaving the scene of an accident). If the cops don't take you seriously, get the name of the cop, and go see an attorney. I'm sure he will find half a dozen extra charges to file against the driver, the towing company, and the police.

Don't let the fact that it may take years stop you. You deserve to be compensated, and they deserve to be punished.

When i called the police the cup told me that from the moment i don't know who is the offender is like i don't have anything in my hands.
So i made a report against unknown..
He also told me that roadside assistance has the right in the name of privacy policy to keep the informations of the driver private.IT DOESN'T MATTER IF HE WAS DRUNK OR NOT as there was no injury!!And only by hiring lawyer and going in court i have a chance to take the numbers..With could take years the trial date..

BUT the good news is that tomorrow i may know his number plates after a BIG search i did...I hope..

Here is a pic of abused trailing arm.

My wife works for an insurance company and she say just report it as a hit an run!! With that you should not be labeled "at fault" so your insurance will not increase as long as you have collision coverage! Also depending on your insurance company you may or may not have to pay you diductable if it's labeled as a hit an run and has been reported to the police!
I know you want to nail this a--hole but with out witnesses and a plate number it's just not worth hiring a lawyer to go after this a--hole!! Cause insurance and the court systems wants all that info to nail him!!
Hopefully this helps in this crappy situation!! Sorry to hear your car got smashed!!

If you got a report and a witness with some ability to track down info (the towing company), there's reason for a investigation, maybe the insurance company may want to pursue for you for them to save money.

They BS'd you.
No law in the World would privacy before criminal responsibility. The towing company has the legal responsibility to report the plates of any car that's involved in an accident, whether there's people injured or not. The cop told you that just because he doesn't want to work, which only shows all cops are just a bunch of lazy, useless a-holes, regardless of where they work. Go get the cop's name and shield number, and then go to a lawyer, and get things moving.
