Well i had a leak and forgot to put oil on my engine i know im an idiot..... it had almost no oil on dip stick i cant seem to find a 95 dohc engine or 94 so i thought about rebuilding i recently rebuild the head so although im a dumb a-- for not putting oil on my newly working car i was blessed with knowlage to rebuild now here is the deal i can get a engine from junk jard from a protege for 150 dollars or an escort GT i have NEVER done a swap so if i buy an engine will i have to modify anything and what years are best as far as swapping? Will it be cheaper to tear down the engine and see what happen and replace whats broken? can i just get a bottom end form a salvage yard and keep my head there is a 94 but its automatic can i just get the block and pistons off it?? Thank you and god bless you

also will like to add i dont have alot of money cheapest is best this is my only car and need to fix it asap again thank you for your time

swap is hands down easier than a rebuild.

yours will run in, 0.2L isn't too different for an ECM.

you didn't read too well, or you're just not used to what you're reading yet. the transmission doesn't change anything about the motor.

Its in an auto manufacturer's best interest to make their models as interchangeable as possible. It costs money to design, manufacture, and stock unique parts.

I will look more into the swap and see how much it would cost since I can use my ECM and harness I should be looking at just the engine will the escort gt work with out an ECM or should I just get a 95 protege engine thank you and will the bottom end of a protege fit my mx3 head?

I just realized you have a DOHC.

you need the harness and ecm from a BP equipped vehicle. This isn't hard or bad, they're both cheap items.

Is your car OBDI or OBDII?

bottom end of a 1.8 is nothing like the bottom end of the 1.6, nothing would match up at all, they wouldn't even bolt together. Apples and oranges.

OBDII I believe since the car is a 95 what if I get a protege from a 95 sp it's OBDII as well and I have access to a escort gt what would I have to do for that swap a friend has a broken down 96 escort motor and tranny no ECM tho

I've never done an OBDII swap, but I imagine it won't be that much different.

Use almost everything from the escort. engine, transmission, axles, engine harness, ECM, airflow meter, and distributor.

www.clubprotege.com will have an ECM for you on the cheap.
