Does anybody have a clear pic of the throttle body coolant lines and where they plug into the block? (Straight Neck KLZE)

one comes off the head on the tranny side. and the other one. uhhh. lol couldnt tell you. if you need to figure out what line runs where. hook up every line you can remember. then go from there. there's really not many line's.. 2 fuel lines... 2 coolant lines for the tb. and then vacuum lines, and a few plugs..

Just plug the throttle body coolant lines it keeps it cooler that way anyways

I had a straight neck in an old mx-3 of mine with the throttle body upside down & the coolant lines for it unconnected, I didn't plug them but rather conneccted them to each other. Idle was fine & no CEL code.

So the coolant is actually hotter then you tb gets at any point cause it's raised away from the engine. So having the coolant going through it makes it warmer which in turn makes the air hotter.

oh f**k i didnt think of that!!!! s--- yah thatd be deadly. so would it work on a curved neck millenia/k8 tb? :O MORE ZOOM ZOOM!?

I've always wondered about this... Doesn't the IM and TB get just as hot as the engine? I could see where this could make sense if you were running thermospacers but doesn't seem like a good idea normally... Also won't this affect the IAC Sensor?

i remember when we installed the hondata thermal gasket on my friends EP3, we bypassed the coolant lines and there was a noticeable difference in temps. we had tried it with and w/out the lines running to the tb with the gasket installed.

shouldnt be too hard to figure out. anyone have a laser thermometer and feel like taking some measurements after a long drive with and without the coolant lines hooked up?

well like i had mentioned with my friends EP3, we drove around with the gasket in, lines connected, and then again with the gasket in, lines bypassed and there was a substantial difference in temperature (i used to have a temp gun, not sure where it is now). I understand that his car was a honda, and this is for a mazda, but, the general discussion is the same. now take into consideration that he had a 3/4" hondata thermal gasket (some poly/nylon blend plastic) so his temp differences where drastic with the lines disconnected.

You can connect the lines that normally run through the TB to eachother to bypass the TB. This does impact idle - you will never get fast idle on initial cold start which means you'll have to manually keep the car running for the first 5 - 10 minutes when it is cold outside. Once the car has warmed up or if it is hot outside you will probably not notice and normal idle rpm should be unaffected by bypassing the coolant lines. I live in MN and found no high idle on initial cold start up too annoying.

Bypassing TB coolant lines keeps the TB cooler but eventually it does heat up to temps under the engine compartment. This may still be cooler compared to a TB with the factory coolant lines connected. I'm sure phenolic spacers help. I have bought into the idea of benefits from CAI and like the way it sounds even if the hp impact is minimal. I'm not sold on spacers or TB bypass. Air doesn't sit for long in the TB or IM. Air to air convection heating is inefficient. Bypassing TB coolant lines for me isn't worth the annoying too low idle on cold start.

Exactly. This is a hassle for those who also have to pass emission tests. Of course, those running MS need not apply, but for what it's worth, unless it's not a DD and/or you race your car farily often ahd have thermal spacers, it's not worth it for the fraction of a gain, especially if you drive it daily, it'll just get headsoaked from the IM, which would make it where you get none of the benefits, and all the draw backs...

Ok I just tried it on my DE/klde vaf/ kl03 ecu you are right unless you have a standalone or get your ecu modified it is not worth it your idle will get messed up & its not worth it..

I have a thermometer but I found the nerves in my hand screaming from the burning sensation while pressed against the intake proof enough. :P Anyway if I had time I would measure both situations. If the intake is 180-200 then the temp of the IAC is a no brainer. I'll measure the intake temp tho.
