My God 8.9, unbelievable and that Tsunami 30m high. I'm watching it now on the news. My heart goes out to the people of Japan. Countries are coming together right now offering assistance.

Ok, on the news today March 12 I watched the explosion at the nuclear power plant. i could clearly see the roof of the reactor building lift up. That means major radiation release or basically they're screwed. Japan just dosen't have the real-estate to quarantine vast areas like they did for Chernobol.

I guess since japan is used to quakes, they have really good emergency plans for this type of thing. I hope for the best for those there.

I had just been watching the Japanese English news a couple of hours before the quake, went to work, and came back to find out about this terrible tragedy.

My most sincere condolences to those who were affected by the earthquake in Japan, as well as those affected by the tsunami in the other parts of the world. Please be safe

Yeah the amount of disasters that have been happening in recent years is unsettling. My heart also goes out to the victims in Japan. It is too bad that for seemingly no reason people must go through these struggles.

There is a reason, it's called continental drift. One tectonic plate (the Okhotsk Plate) subducting under another (the Philippine Sea Plate). Now these are not to be confused with the Blue Plate Special found at your local eatery.
