Mazda 6 steering wheel buttons info needed!

I recently purchased a used Mazda 6 steering wheel off of ebay complete with audio and cruise control buttons. I put it in my MX-3 without any kind of problem and am wanting to connect the steering wheel buttons (primarily the audio ones) to my head unit (which supports steering wheel control)
Now, since the plug that comes with the 6 steering wheel can go nowhere in my MX-3, does anyone out there know which wires are for what?
Supposedly, with this head unit, I won't be needing a PAC-SWI something, but I am quite possibly mistaken. On the back of the head unit there's two wires for the steering wheel control. One says Key1-5V and the other one says Key2-5V. The manual says that I can connect these two directly to the steering wheel and there's a setting that allows me to read the signals sent to the head unit and configure them one by one. I assume that the signals that the steering wheel send would be variable resistance of some sort?
Anyway, I've attached this diagram of what the plug on the steering wheel looks like. Please help me out with matching the numbers to something

1,2 and 4 go to the audio controls. 5, 6 and 7 to the cruise control buttons. Number 8 is for the horn. There are an additional two wires (pink and grey that go directly from the audio controls to the cruise control buttons - or vice versa).
I guess I need some ground up there, maybe even some 12V?
As this topic has also been posted on the Mazda 6 forums without any response at all, any help you can give would be greatly appreciated
