So, I'm finally starting a worklog for this car. I've got the AWD Protege rear end to start mocking up mounting points in my shop. Below are pics of the AWD car I bought and cut in half to save room in the shop. I'm in the process now of cleaning up a spot to actually do the work. I will post info and pics as I get more done.

I was going to ask why you don't need the front half, but than I saw the auto shifter. Still, you cut the drive shaft, don't you need that?

One thing that I've been curious about for years; what do they do for gas tanks in those things, and why can't those be used on the Mx3?

I didn't cut the drive shaft. Only the exhaust and brake/fuel lines. I saved the shaft and fuel tank. I'm hoping to use the stock fuel tank. The fuel tank is one solid tank, like the MX-3 tank, except it has a U shaped bend to accomadate the drive shaft. It also has two fuel pumps. One to provide fuel to the engine, the other to pump fuel from one side of the tank to the other. Because of the U bend in the tank, fuel would be trapped on the passenger side of the tank when it is emptied from use.

The exhaust run in the channel with the driveshaft? I'm going to say not it just ended up that way after it was halved, eh? I just saw the cut pipe and thought you cut the driveshaft

Oh, that's a neat fuel system

I never thought about a fuel tank accomodating the drive shaft... makes sense though! Sounds like a great project!

The tank should fit, I never mocked it in place when I did my swap. You will probably have to cut out access panels for the pumps, or replace the whole seat section. I was able to fit my exhaust through the stock mx tunnel. Good luck looking forward to seeing the progress.
