Hey everyone, brand new to the site and I need help now! I work in a garage and decided to change my half shafts out today while at work. (94 mx3 manual 4cyl 1.6L) I ordered my new half shafts from rockauto.com and they arrived in two days. after taking off the old half shaft, (which was a huge pain in my project car, considering the boots were already torn and the axle was separated in the interior boot) (94 mx3 1.6L) I took the new one out of the package, only to find out that the new driver's side one has the abs thing on it, and my old one does not. I couldn't get in contact with rock auto to see if this will still work or not, so someone please help me out. Can I put these new ones in my car even if the old shafts didn't have the abs tooth ridged thing? Or do I need to put my car up on blocks at my job site until I can order new ones?

OK your new on this site BUT you can still read right. You need to post in the correct forum and give more info in the title so people who are experienced with your model of car can see and then help you. Most people NEED HELP NOW that's why this site is here. Are you more special than others here that we should drop every thing we're doing to help you? My advise is change the title to something like 'Are all 4cly Half Shafts the same' and post this in the proper forum? Oh ya one more thing. I suggest an introduction post saying Hi and giving us a little back ground on yourself.

You can use the ABS half shaft without a problem. Most manufacturers today don't even bother, when a car comes both with and without ABS, to make the half shafts without the crown.
Either way, the ABS crown is just a ring that's press fitted onto the axle, so you can slide it off with a hammer and some patience.

Thank you for the advice, both of you. I went ahead and popped the new ones in and everything is fine. As for daninski, I'm sorry, I was in a hurry and didn't actually expect anyone to respond so soon. Let me give you a little background. I bought the car, which was in VERY rough shape, from some people for just a few hundred dollars. My intention was to teach myself how to work on cars, considering I had never done so before. I've slowly been replacing everything over the last 4 months to get it into great condition to last me a good couple years. I was told these are easy cars to learn on, and I've been having little trouble with the repairs, other than the fact that some parts are very corroded and difficult to wrench off. Again, thank you both of you for your help, and if I need any help in the future, I'll be sure to be more specific in my postings and subject lines. Thank you!
