well i was on another post talkin about subs. and well i have my opinon. 2 12" rockford fosgate subs 1500 mono amp or 2 channel bridged mono in a series. in a sealed box. 8gauge power and ground. and either clarion or alpine for a head unit. pionere premere is also good to. this is what i would see is the best way to be herd for over a mile. save on weight. and go deaf.
personally i am running to 12" alpine s series on a 1000w mono block amp in a serise. with a sealed box. with a premere deck. bumps harder than s---. cant even handle it up all the way. and i have official proof that i can be herd over a mile away.
now my question is what doyou guys think the best setup is

I'm personally not a fan of the whole blaring subs thing. Yes I like subwoofers but only to enhance the lower frequencies of the music, not so that everything in your car vibrates and all the audio is distorted because the bass is so high AKA what the civic-driving-seat-reclining black guys are infamous for. You don't even need more than one 12" in a small car like ours to be loud. It's f***ing stupid.

Quality > loudness

Thats a matter of choice again. Same with exhaust. Depends how much attention you want - what is important to you.

But I think typically, for non-audiophiles, there are some crappy brands, a huge range of acceptable brands, and then some fan-freakin' tastic brands. The only deciding factor is how much money you want to throw at it.

I have 2 12's and have not cranked them in years. I'm thinking about take out one 12 or maybe just going one 10. I'm not a punk kid anymore and we point and laugh at those douches. My music taste has also changed big time. I'm a rock/metal guy now, and 12's just don't do it justice.

But not everyone on this site is a "car guy," performance and tuning scares some people.

Haha, I used to have 2 10's and then I downgraded to one 10".. Now I am thinking about going 8" or a low powered 10" (200W RMS) as I dont even crank it anymore, I just like the SQL aspect now. This is where people should start.. Just bypass the SPL crap, unless your into that sorta thing

And my buddy has 8 speakers, and 2 12's, and wants to add 2 10's in his PGT. He's got over 2500 watts in that car so far. turning the headunit to 6 makes your head hurt.

I know this is about subs, but if you'd like a system that actually sounds good, check out my worklog.
I never got into speakers that are too loud to actually hear the music, and cause excess wax to build up in your ears to protect the eardrums.

im pretty sure i didnt say. hey click hear to hate on loud bass.
haha but anyways. i tend to thow alot of huge parties out in the middle of nowhere with my car being the sound system.
so it has to be loud.
and i have door speakers as well. i went pioneer. but not walmart. the good s---.
i like to hear the music as well. but i also like my bass so loud a i cant take a drink of soda goin down the road

Over the last 13 years I have built rough 150 different stereo systems in numerous different cars through working at different stereo shops, or scheduling people to come over for a weekend and doing it in my driveway.

As already previously mentioned, it is all up to you what the best setup is.

There is no combination of speakers/amplifiers that define they are good solely for any individual vehicle.

And yes, as also previously mentioned, quality is by far better then loudness. A properly built system that is loud, where you can even hear a person breathing in the background will sometimes put out more dB than a 17 year old and his 100 subs with no mids and highs.

I have a shelf full of awards from the systems I have had in my own vehicles even. It involves alot of research, knowing you impedance's, thresholds, etc.

I've even built systems where two 10" subs blow out two 12" subs due to combination of equipment.

while were going towards this topic about quality and knowledge of sound systems, anyone have a link that could help audio noobs (me) understand what the important factors are in building a system for quality and what a lot of the info on boxes and stuff mean. (for example i RMS is the true wattage and not the watt number your normally given or whatever)

having said this you must know how to properly use a computer not just read the spec (aka: dumby proof safe periameters) in the owners manual.

that being said im in the same boat as you just no shop work always in my own garage. i look back at my old stuff and think to myself damn that sucked! my new stuff is way better. good ol' evolution.
