I have a 1992 MX-3 base model. Today it almost killed me. It decided to stall at a stop light and not start back up. We thought it was the air idle speed motor so I tried to give it gas while starting it but no luck. After trying serveral trys it it finnaly started but it was giving itself so much gas that in first gear it was reving to 5000rpms it finnaly calmed down when I got into fifth gear. It's been stalling out lately but we can't seem to figure out why. I've had the fuel pump checked. The altenator and timing belt were recently changed. The stalling out is completely random sometimes the idle just drops. Or sometimes it just stalls with no warnings at all. And sometimes you'll be pressing on the gas pedal and no gas will seem to flow. The check engine light only comes on when it has stalled so it's useless. Any ideas what it could be?

Pull your engine light codes. Even though it goes on and off, I bet there's a stored code. Theres a post on the procedure in the faq's section. Maybe that will give you an idea of where to look.

check the accordian tube for cracks...

ya.. vac leak of some sort.

We checked before there is no vaccum leak. That's what we first thought as well. then we though it was the air idle speed motor. and now were are lost lol.
