There's a thread in the V6 forum about bigger oil filters that will thread onto the K8 and KLZE blocks. Just wondering if anybody knows that actual upgrade filter for the B6DE.

Ryan seems to think it's the Miata or Millenia filter. Anybody know for sure? A search doesn't really reveal anything.

The oil filters for the B6-BP engines are, to the best of my knowledge, all the same: Fram 6607, Purolator 14612, Mobil 1 M1-108...
The oil filter for the K8-klze-de engines are Fram 7317, Purolator 14610, Mobil 1 M1-110, K&N HP 1010, which is a few millimeters bigger than the B6-BP filter (I'm not sure about the thread, though).
Anyways, I'm not sure why you feel the need to upgrade your oil filter. Unless you replace your oil pump for a higher volume unit, changing your oil filter doesn't really make a difference. I'd say you'd get much better results upgrading to a BETTER filter, like K&N (for superior burst strength, in case you're racing) or Mobil 1 (for better filtering). Other than that, the standard size filter is more than capable of handling the volume the pump delivers.

A larger oil filter allows for a greater capacity of oil, resulting in a relatively cleaner (less concentration of contaminants) oil. Also, a greater surface area of filtering material in the filter should remove more contaminants before becoming blocked.

If you can fit a larger filter, it's usually a good idea.

I guess it's a matter of personal preference. I normally use good quality filters and oil, and change them often.

but yeah I don't see a need either.. I've seen higher flowing oil pumps but.. is there any reason for them?

Sometimes. For example, when you add a turbo/supercharger to an engine, it's good practice to increase the oil flow, to keep everything properly lubricated. Some people prefer to get a bigger oil filter, to cope with the increased oil flow. Personally, I like to use a separate circuit after the pump, with a separate oil filter.

Personally, I find using a bigger oil filter when not needed is useless. True, you increase the oil volume a little, but you're using the same amount of oil over a given time period.
Let me explain:
So, let's suppose you change your oil filter for a really big one, and now your engine, instead of holding 3 quarts of oil, holds 4. Given that the engine produces a given amount of contaminants to the oil, now your oil will last 4000 miles, instead of 3000. YiPPPIIIEEE!!! Now your oil is lasting longer!
But if you look at it, you're (obviously) using more oil, so, just like before, you're still burning through an average of 1 quart every 1000 miles. And the trade off is that your car is now about 2 lbs heavier.

More oil also means more heat dissipation, keeping the engine cooler. There's no point in disputing this, if you don't wanna do it, then don't.

I don't remember what the model is, but go to an auto parts store, pick up the m-108 or whatever the model is (mobil 1 or fram or whatever)

there's ONE other size that's the exact same mount and twice the size. I think it might be the m-110 or similar, however, you can just pull the m-108 out of the box, and look at bigger ones, then match the mount.
There's only one which is twice the size.

AFAIK if the base diameter is the same, and the thread looks the same, they will interchange.

I know this because my BP is the same as my B6 is the same as the GF's 1.7 Civic, as my mothers 1.8 Sentra....

Just go to the store and look at ones with the correct base diameter. Worst case scenario, return it.

My original question was simply what the larger filter was that would fit, I did not request anybody's comments.
