Swap KLZE idle problems

Post by Bill_Peacock »

I have a 92 MX-3 GS that I just swap to (I hope is a KLZE 2.5) engine. I used the parts that Foreign Engines Inc. sent me, except the distributor in which I used my new one from the 1.8 engine as their distributor would not produce and firing. It was a curved neck intake and I ended up using my intake as the curved neck would not fit under the hood. I starts fine and has a lot more power, but idles very poorly; rough, high then low, etc. Any advice on what to do next. My mechanic thinks I need a different EUC (?)

We need more details on what your swap consists of, not just a run-on sentance.

What do you mean the curve neck didnt fit under the hood?

What ecu are you running?

Did you check timing?

I will try again; When I ordered the engine, it was a curve neck intake. This intake was too tall to fit under the hood. The mechanic used the 1.8 intake and it fit nicely. The timing has been gone over by the mechanic several times and he believes it is correct. The tech person at Foreign Engines thougt it was in the distributor and so my mechanic tried to reinstall the one from the KZ engine. This did not work as the car would not even produce a spark. The ECU is the original one that was in my car and the tech from Foreign Engines indicates that it should work fine with the KZ engine. When idling, the engine runs very rough and yet as it accelerates, seems to smooth out nicely.

can you correct it to klze, it didn't bother me in the title but you spelled it wrong in your original post also.

Sorry, I think I have changed it to the correct identification. I Believe the invoice calls it a KLZE engine. My mechanic is pulling his hair out trying to get it to idle smoothly.

intake leak is common.. vac leak is common... hows the compression? The curve neck fits, I don't even have a v6 and I know this is fact. The K8 intake will really sap the power.

Timing is good?

Search for the proper ECU/MAF/Manifold combo. Its on here.
