the background is sweet

it looks too fake. when i was doing graphic design my college prof's always said that being suttell rather then going crazy with blending options was always better.

I don't think there is a right or wrong, it depends on the effect your after. I think it looks pretty cool.

I think the reasons it looks fake are:
-over saturated colour relative to the background
-the colour has the effect of pronouncing the noise in the photo

But this isn't photoshop.com/forum! I think the car will look great I love seeing mxs getting treated to new paint

here's my base pic

yeah man try messing around with curves. go to your tool bar at the top image > adjustments > curves. underneath the adjustments tap this is alot you can do to change the image.

now that i think about it, it probably is the best job to have being the stoner i am

i would suggest doing a photoshop of your car in better lighting
the pic u started off with isnt a good one in terms of lighting for a colour swap
jus picture this, if u did actually paint u car that blueish colour n took a pic of it in that exact same position and lighting
the colour wouldnt look the same..obviously it would look darker and maybe a slightly diff hue
so u simply cant photoshop your colour on to a car in the shade n expect it to look real
try this, since your car is grey take a pic in good lighting
wen u have it in photoshop copy the layer and lighten it slightly n maybe even desaturate to get rid of any colours reflecting off on to it
then replace the colour using your techniques ( dont be afraid if u mess wit the background... its the cars body ur focusing on) but remember not to over do it
then slowly crop the background out
now u can play around with the hue, saturation n lighting on that layer to get the colour u want n it will only change the car n not the background
