Is this normal that I won't see pictures of get a compression test until I purchase the motor?
Just seems rather strange: Surprise, you bought this motor, oh and their is bad compression and oil all over the motor

:P.

I am in the process of purchasing from him as well. He has a pretty bad reputation on the forum so I have been pretty careful with him. He also would not take the engine down and take pictures or do compression test for me until I had paid a deposit, however, he claims the engines come out of running cars and are compression tested in Japan before shipping to him. His warranty is for 30 from the date of delivery on the long block only and for start up only. So, as long as you don't take delivery until you are ready to do the install and you accept that you may have to ship the engine back to get a replacement you should be fine.
In his defense, I have given him a deposit and asked him to hold my engine for several weeks until I am ready to pick it up and he has been very accommodating. I am also in the enviable position of being local to him so I can return my engine myself if it doesn't test well or is unduly dirty.
As long as you don't get all bitchy and demanding with the guy he's very easy to deal with. Sure he's a little fishy, but he's the best show in town for what we need.
When I called him last week he told me he had one ZE left. I don't believe him. I think he's trying to pressure me into buying, but if I call him on it I'm afraid he will start being the jackass his reputation says he is. Did he give you a similar story?

It kind of makes sense. He doesn't want to order engine from Japan if someone is not willing to buy. He wants to make sure you will not back out so he wants a deposit. I wouldn't want to have engine laying around that nobody will buy so he keeps his stock low.

I have purchased 4 KLZE motors from him. The first one was kinda high miles... 2nd one was a nice straight neck.. 3rd was a JDM DE? (Don't ask, I was there to actually pic this out but didn't check headcodes, was a very good motor though)... 4th was the straightneck I have now.
I got my last motor for 900$ shipped taxes in. So that price is steep, but I am sure he has a excuse of why its more cash. It is best to go there and see the motor if you can.. if not ask for tons of pics of the motor and the valvetrain and pic the cleanest one. It's all you can do. If he wont take pics until u pay then that is crap. Go somewhere else.
Good luck, talk to me on msn if you need anything PJ

for a small fee I can go down there and get some pics of the engines for any of you looking at JDM. I have dealt with Shohab and he is a duche, but he did hook me up with the second engine (ion my car now) it had no manifold, but I had one already, $450 out the door
If you want me to go check something, just let me know.

It must be difficult buying a motor unseen. There's lots of crap out there and personnally I would be very hesitant to buy if someone I knew didn't check the motor out first. Why are these sellers so shady? For $800 bucks their profit margin must be pretty small.
