please help, i just bought a 93 eunos 30x over ebay so i could not testdrive it. i got it at a really good price so i thought if it had a few problems it would still be worth buying. i started up the engine and it sounded fine. as i put it in first gear and started to release the clutch and accelerate the car started jerking as soon as my foot was off the clutch . the only way i can drive the car is if i quickly put it to second which still jerks but not as much then go to third quickly, from third to 5th its fine. just the first two gears jerk as soo as u let go off the clutch.

Is it a V6?
Is the check engine light on?
Sounds like a shot tranny, or at least 1st and 2nd. Are you capable of pulling the tranny apart?

Yes its a v6 and the check engine light is not on. Im not capable of pulling the tranny apart, i thought that the clutch rod could of slipped because i can pull out in third fine. im not sure though. i also found oil in the old radiator so thats a worry too.

Oil where there is supposed to be coolant is bad

I believe it blows grey if burning oil?
blue for coolant
black for too much gas?

Someone else will help you out soon enough, sorry I can't tell you your exact problem.

Blue for burning oil
White/grey for headgasket (aka coolant)
Black for running rich

Check the intake accordion hose for cracks.. That is the first place to check, they are prone to crack and create jerkiness like you say and hesitation.

As for oil in the rad.. it is possible that over time that can accumulate, so do a coolant flush and check it out again after a few hundred KM's.

But its only in 1st and seccond, and not rev related, so how could it be intake?

oh, or unless he has put it in third at 30km/h and the engine is under such load, at like 1000RPM that the jerks don't show through.

But he says it idles fine? Only when he lets out the clutch it jerks...

Maybe he has a bad pressure plate or a bent release fork and it doesnt want to go into the gears easy..

Give us some more information so we can diagnose it abit better

id check the hoses on the intake and make sure they aren't cracked or anything like that.

here is some more information. when the car is in first gear its impossible to drive in 1st at a low speed. it just starts jerking. the only way to drive the car is to rev hard when you release the clutch and quickly put it in 2nd then 3rd quickly. once the car starts jerking there is no way to stop it other than pushing the clutch in and changing gears. once in 3rd gear the car drives perfect. if the car is at a redlight. you can take off in 3rd easy without and jerking but there is hardly any power. so i need to get this fixed so i can pull out if t intersections and cruise around carparks. thanks for all the help

Hmm, that is really strange.. It is possible that the transmission is shot.. but I have not really heard of anything like that happening.. sorry I cannot be of much help

when i changed my sparks plugs awhile back, one of the wires was loose so the car was jerking like crazy, so check all the spark plug wires.

my wife's tercel is doing this right now. I have yet to check it out. I thought it was the clutch that was going. I'll be checking fluids and maybe adjusting it.. maybe that'll help. Her car does not get the tlc mine does, it could be many things.

Change spark plugs, and leads first. Do an oil and oil filter change while you're at it.

Then change gearbox oil, redline MT-90 is good for our boxes.

Adjust idle and maybe TPS. Do some searching here to find out how, there should be a plentiful amount of info on those things.

May indeed be a bad gearbox but at least if you change the other stuff you know it's not at fault and you should change some of that stuff anyway when you buy a car. It could be a bunch of small things making the car do this. Who knows. Strange that it's only in the first two gears.

I had similar problems years ago. Actually I would check the catalytic converter. Sounds similar to the symtoms of a clogged cat. Would Idle and cruise fine but jerk at lower speed just off idle.

This is interesting... Now that I really think about it, I get some jerking/surging sometimes at low speeds... I figured it was just some sort of resonance in the backlash in the drivetrain... Maybe my cat? I never would have guessed that. I'll go straight pipe if I do exhaust (No tests in MB )
