Returning after a 3 year layoff (Update: traded in the MX)

Post by jplar »

After having my car sit for a few years I was finally able to have it towed to a shop and worked on. Next Saturday, I drive it from Illinois to Wisconsin where I get to have my baby back. In the interim I've been driving a 2000 Ford Taurus and while I got my money's worth, it's time for me to be back in the proper driver's seat. I'm very interested to see what projects people have done in the past three years.

Ha, that's an old-skooler! You can tell too cause you've got the group buy HVAC pannel, the exact same Mx-3 parking sigh I got off of eBay a long time ago, and Z3 fenders which I haven't seen in a LONG time!

Put a few miles on it first before you hit the hwy. I didn't and almost fried my brakes (too much rust, not enough clearence). Keep it under 50 mph and let the car break in after sitting for so long. Change your engine oil too if you haven't already done so and if the gas in the tank is old drain it and refill. IMO Welcome back.

Thanks for the posts. Rest assured that if there is some sort of liquid in the car, it's being purged and replaced. Nd4SpdSe, glad I was part of the GB experience and not just for the part. The hood scoop, Z3 fenders, NSX vents aren't really anything special, no work log. They were just parts I purchased on eBay and had molded into the body, though the Z3 inserts not like what I imagined. The only work log I have is on my two-seat conversion project.

I'm glad to be active in the community again and I guess I"m bringing some old school flavor to the scene  . My next step is to complete my interior swap, from gray parts to black parts. From there, brakes and suspension system.

I didn't look hard enough, and thought the hood scoop was functional, and maybe the sides were brake coolers  I was excited, because I'm going to make a ram air scoop, and thought I'd learn something :)
Welcome back! It's an exciting time to be on MX-3.com (if you have $$ ).

Yeah, I'm not very technical when it comes to cars (just computers). If I see something someone else did or have an idea, I take to a specialty shop to see if can be done. Not the most original ever, but I love tricking out my car.

Project, good to see you again!

You should see the rear wheel skirts that are taking the MX-3 world by storm!
If the trend keeps up, pretty soon, I'll be the only one with them

Re: Returning after a 3 year layoff (update: traded it in)

Post by jplar »

Well, I lasted 6 months with it. The transmission was starting to slip and the starter was acting real flaky. Plus some body rust actually ate through the body in the rear wheel well. So I traded it in and I'm now I'm the proud owner of a 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS.

I've had a lot of fun years with my MX-3 and I was able to take it over 180,000 miles but in the end the repair costs would be better allocated. It's been an honor and privileged to have been part of the MX-3 community and I will always cause passengers and drivers in vehicles with me to have minor heart attacks when I freak out and point while yelling "It's an MX-3! Isn't it beautiful?"

It was my first car, it was my dearest car. I'll always remember Little Red and enjoy looking at all the pictures.
