Another crash. :(

Well, it seems to be a recurring theme. As soon as I start working on a car, some dumbass decides to drive into me.

I was heading North on Decarie bvld in Montreal when a guy in an old civic hatchback decided to do a u-turn from the right lane (right in front of me). I was doing around 50km/h when he did it, but sensing something was up I had already started braking. 4-wheel lockup, and I hit him at about 35 (no airbag deployment). He spun and ended up on the opposite sidewalk, snapping both his struts and folding his wheels under his car. Back end thoroughly destroyed..

Luckily all of my damage was cosmetic (go mx-3!). Bumper, hood, fender and headlight. Should be about $500-600 to get her going again. I don't think I'm going to file an insurance claim, because I already have one not-at-fault accident on my record.. I don't need another.

God, I wish people would pay more attention when they're driving. :(

Is he going to pay you the cash to fix it then or do you have to eat it?

Sorry to hear that - I was in a similar situation recently too - the damage looks similar to my car except for the fenders and headlights. I am thinking about not messing with the dents and getting a "new" hood.

In Qc they're pretty damn crazy for drivers, especially in Montreal

Ah, I'm thinking of just letting it be... the kid was like 20 (maybe) and he was driving an '88 civic hatchback. It was his first car. He didn't have collision on it obviously, so he's got enough probs. In my case $500 is a lot less of a deal than for him, and he lost his whole ride.

I think I'll just bite it. I don't really wanna get insurance involved since it could make my rates go up (even though I've never had an at-fault accident).

Yeah I hear ya on not wanting insurance to go up - and I guess if yo can afford the 500 it's fine, as long as the kid wasn't an a hole. I've only been in 1 accident, and technically it was my fault, but in reality it was my old car's fault. I was stopped at a toll, waiting in line, was leaning over to get change and my van rolled forward and tapped, litterally tapped at like 1-2 mph a Tundra in front of me. We pulled over after the toll and exchanged info, didn't go through insurance, but I had to pay him $500 for his "bumper sensors" and something. All i saw on my car was that the dirt from the season had been smudged off my plastic front bumper...

Well a week later, I'm driving along and my brakes fail...my vacuum line was cracked and finally broke completely. I ended up being fine, which was good. Not all of us get so lucky with the people you barely hit :( That really sucked for me as I was just an 18yr old at the time.
