B6 DOHC Question! PLEASE HELP!!!

This is a very dumb question, is there a difference between the 95 B6 and the 96 B6? I'm swapping the 96 into my car because I blew my engine and found this one in a wrecked car. My mechanic is telling me the engine is different and now he wants to charge me more because he tells me the harness is different. Ex: the crank sensor on the 96.
Can anyone clear this up for me? I was under the impression that these engines were exactly the same!!
Thanks!
Bryan

The engines are "similar" - there are a few extra sensors on the 96 - the 96 model is obd2 and the previous models are either partial pbd2 or some other proprietary standard. If you just transplant the engine and use your existing wiring harness - it will work (you will have some extra sensors - you can leave them unconnected). If you want to transplant the engine wiring harness as well - it will be a nightmare.

Yes, Its just when you get to 96 is when it starts to get all funky.
