so i ordered one of those white HVAC faceplates off ebay - (keep snide comments to self please) - i just wanted it to match my indiglo gauges since they are white during the day - anyway - the one i got was too small or not wide enough - now the seller is trying to tell me that there were 2 different sizes of HVAC panels for the MX3 - and im trying to confirm this - so if anyone knows this bit of trivia that would be great. and please i didnt start this thread to talk trash about the whole ebay thing - i just need to know the answer to the question - are there 2 different sizes of HVAC panels for the MX3?
thank you that is all

There's two different styles. The slider knob style, and the electronic style. Those ebay white overlays are for the slider knob style. I have read of other people on here having fitment issues with those before.
You should always do a search on here before buying something like that. Since there's so few different commercial accessory options, chances are somebody on here has tried it and can provide some kind of testimonial.

They came in some '94++ models. No, it wouldn't just be a direct swap. The electronic one uses actuators to do the physical moving of the vent dampers and whatnot. The slider one uses cables.
There'd be a LOT of stuff swapping, and I'm not sure if anybody has actually done it yet.

I remember someone has. More than one person I think. It was waaaayyyy to much work if you ask me. The slider is actually a lever that is directly connected to the airbox, it's a pretty neat contraption.

I have to disagree... maybe it's different in the pre '94's but I'm pretty sure the sliders are all cables. I know mine are, I've actually taken mine out and greased the metal wire inside the cable sleaves.
Any car that I've ever worked on that had slider controls (used to be a car audio installer) has had cables. The wires have loops at the end that indirectly clip onto the device that is being opened/closed.
Not to be an a--, but I'm pretty darn sure they're cables.

You could be right. I may be thinking of my other car, but I could have sworn it was the mx (it's been so long since I've worked on it). I'll have to toy around with it in the morning.

There's actually a 3rd one I've seen, I believe it's a slider with an intergrated A/C button, old like an old 80's style similar that our 626 had
As for the indiglo ones, that was a limited group buy that was organised with Speedhut. I got in on it as well. You can contact them to see if they have the art work available and see how many they need to sell to make another batch.
The electronic push HVAC was only available in 94 and up. As mentioned, the sliders is all cables, while the push button is not, I dont know it's it's vaccum or motors cause I dont have one, but it's definitely not cables, and will be alot of work to convert over.

Hmm, Still looks like it's for the slider stype. Those imitations came out not long after the group buy went through, was kinda sad.

no - im positive the ebay ones are for the electronic controls - because the ebay ones dont have the symbols for the air direction on the 'decal' - i'll bet money if i could get my hands on one - the ebay panel i got wll fit perfectly.

if you got these on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1992-199 ... enameZWDVW" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
then they will only fit the push button type.
