my car randomly dies. driving, cold weather but doesnt matter whether car is warm or not, one time it died and i smelled burnt oil, i can start after 1 minute off, no warning lights on after car is restarted, when car dies, oil, checkengine, and batt lights all on. help????

could a head gasket cause this? i noticed on the burnt oil one that there was some oil from front head gasket leaking onto exhaust.

could battery positive shorting to ground cause this? i noticed also my positive batt cabble is a lil high on the post and may be hitting the hood.

anyone have similar conditions?

need more information, type of mx-3 you have GS or RS, mods done to the car, etc...

Oil coming from the headgasket or do you mean oil coming from the valve cover, never herd of oil coming from the headgasket before. Valve cover leaks are common with all older car.

if you have a v6 it sounds like you have wonderful distributor failure that all v6s have. 40-100 will fix this problem for good

your distributor is the problem, mazda used internal coil distributors meaning the ignitor and the coil are built inside the disty, the problem with that is well the heat kills them, causing problems like you have now, eventually it wont even run. your soluition is called the Hei/blaster mod you can either do this which turns your distributor into an external disty, meaning you've bypassed the internal coil and ignitor and you have ones hooked up outside of the disty. This mod will run you 50-100 dollars to do depending on the quality of parts you get, OR you can spend 300 on a new distributor that will do the exact same thing later on down the road.

If you want to know how to do the hei/blaster mod, do a search as there are several tutorials on the board, its easy to do, and worth every cent!

you can just get remanufactured disty from auto zone for like $125, they'll give you some money for old disty.

im doing the hei mod prolly tomorrow, but i ve read two different ways of wiring it... do i cut the solid orange ecu trigger wire to not interfere with stock internal igmodule, or do i leave it alone? like i've said, i've seen it written up both ways....
