A few important questions about the tranny, locks, etc.

I have a couple of questions
1. ok how do the locks on this car work, the 92 RS. Cause my drivers side worked when I first got the car but now it doesnt, yet the passangers seems to work only some of the time like today I got home it didnt work but when I was at school just 25 minutes ago it did. Then I went to work left with the door locked and it worked. I dont know if its on a timer, or does it have something to do with the seat belt position since I still have to do my recall, any advice here would be very helpful. **NEW I also went to a junkyard and locked on of the doors on an mx3 and it did not stay locked. The door will seem locked but you can open it from the outside even if you have the door open lock it then use the outside handle it doesnt come out of lock mode yet when you shut the door it will open no problem, any ideas**

2. Ok now to the second problem, my friends and I beat the s--- of out this car for the new swap but that might not be for a bit so I have a question in the mean time. My car seems to keep slipping out of gear if I floor it in say 3-4th. Im not sure if its the tranny or the clutch because the car getting into first is really rough, and when it slips it sounds like the clutch is slipping on the gear.

3. Another one my speedo seems to be bouncing when below say 40 I have no idea what this is.

4. My heater doesnt seem to work I always thought cars drew the heat from the motor so this wouldnt be a problem but I cant get the heat to work I even went to the yard and pulled a fuse from that and changed it still not warm at all

5. There was one more question I cant remember and will ask later if I can

Thanks for all your help guys

They're called dummy locks. When you close the door, you have to hold the door handle in the "open" postion as you're closing it. If you don't hold the handle, the lock unlocks. The idea is if your mindful enough to go through this procedure, you won't forget your keys in your car.

As for the lack of warm air, I would suspect a problem with the heater core system if it blows air, but it's cold. Perhaps you have a Failsafe thermostat that has seized open.

1. Lock the door, hold the ouside handle up, close the door. It should stay locked.
2. Sounds like it is low on trans fluid. Check and fill if necessary, There are many posts on how to check and fill the trans if you need, just do a search.
3. Sounds like the cable is binding from the sender to the speedo. I would get another one to replace it with (sender and cable). A used one should work fine.
4. Heaters work off the heat from the radiator fluid. You could have one of several issues. in order of likelyhood- There is not enough radiator fluid- fill the radiator. The rad. fluid is not getting hot- change the thermostat and gasket. There is a blockage in the heater core so that the rad. fluid will not flow through it- flush the system or get a new heater core.
Note: Radiator fluid does not dissapear on its own. If the fluid is low you have a leak somewhere. Once you fill it you need to find the leak and repair it. I read that you are planning a swap. If going from the SOHC to a DOHC most of the radiator parts are still the same. So that fixing the problem now is not a waste of money.

Little question here. On the GS the speedo is operated electronically. On the RS is there a cable?

i do know that in MY GS when I was having problems with wheel bearings and balljoints being bad the speedo would be really jumpy. Now that all those problems were fixed and replaced with other parts the speedo is nice and smooth.

and for the guys shifter coming out of gear, if the fluid is not low, It could also be a combination of bad motor mounts and shifter/stabilizer bushings.
