Hey guys, I'm looking at buying a new MX-3 and this time one thats clean enough to actually do a swap. Anyway I was hoping to jam the BPT or even the BPD if I could find one. Therein lies my problem. Where could I locate the engines I'm looking for?
Thanks

The best BPs come from 1990-94 Protege LX's.
Grab the ECU and the engine wiring harness while you are at it.
You can find them in junkyards or on craigslist as entire cars-- which is the best deal... then you have a donor car.

Were any of the BPs from the Protege turbocharged?

All of the cars to have the BPT are as listed according to wikipedia
* 1989-1994 Mazda Familia GT-X (Japan)
* 1992-1993 (BPD) Mazda Familia GT-R / GTAe (Japan)
* 1989-1994 Ford Laser TX3 turbo (Australia)
* Ford Laser GT-X

the Cheepest BP you will find is from a mid late 90's Kia sophea. then swap the valve cover for a Mazda one. they have the same casting numbers as the Mazda engines, just because its from a Kia it makes it cheeper. I can pich them up for a 100 bucks all day long. Same with the Kia trans. its better than the Pro LX trans(G series)

josh if you use a kia bp and harness / ecu that will work best only if the car is a 94-95 mx-3 a 96-2000 miata will work too just have to change some things on it
if you have a 92-93 then a bp from a 90-94 protege or a 91-95 escort gt or a 94-95 miata
for a bpt bpd you want to source that from corksport / ebay / aspec or some other engine importers... try using the search function or posting in the general section that you are looking to get that engine. or clubprotege.com just had someone selling one for cheap not sure if it's gone yet
