I will be driving my mx-3 v6 down the road in any gear and all the sudden the rpms jump up to 3000 rpms and stays there. Not sure what could be causing this but it is driving me crazy. Car also won't start if you shut the car off while it is revving up. Please help someone.

I'm guessing your mx-3 v6 is a manual. What happens if you press the gas when it revs up? do the rpm's just go up futher when you hit the gas and you have no acceleration?

Have you tried putting your foot underneath the gas pedal and pushed it up?

My automatic did that to me and I pushed the gas pedal from underneath.

It could also be your distributor going bad...., don't ask me how, why, where or whatever, it's just something that happened to me

This ended up being something to do with a tempature gauge. The sensor was bad and telling the engine it was cold when it actually was hot. So it was trying to warm up the engine as I was driving. Had to take it to the dealership to get this taken care of. But thanks for all your help.
