Turning a 1.6 SOHC into a DOHC?

I have gone over the internet for a while searching for some information on if I can change my SOHC into a DOHC. Without doing an engine swap. I guess what I really am trying to get down to is... Does a DOHC block/header fit with a SOHC engine? I've seen that the head costs around 300... well that was what someone was selling it for in the Buy sell or trade room. I take it the ECU would have to get replaced? I'd have to search up on some parts site to find out which one I am to replace it with. Any suggestion would be very helpful. I'm sorry that I can't find the information or figure this out myself.
I'm meaning a B6-ME/2E switching over to parts from a B6-D/DE

Why search around the internet when you can look in the 4cyl FAQ section here?

Answers for the actual engine work are in that thread/FAQ. But that will still leave you with needing to swap your wiring harness and you will need to use all the DOHC sensors and you will need to change your MAF & ECU & you will need to use the Distributor that came with the DOHC head OR get a BP Disty and convert to the HEI igniton setup. Coil packs are also an option if you want to go with a standalone engine management system sometime in the future.

Dunno for certain but the O2 sensor might be different as well.. just thought I would throw that in as something you should check on.

look guy since you have a 1.6 sohc going to a 1.8 BP swap is a easy as 1 2 3..
now if ya had a 1.6 dohc going to a 1.8 bp swap well it can be kinda hard..
you don't have a 1.6 dohc 94+ mx-3.. do you you have a 1.6 sohc 92-93 mx-3..
if ur going to a dohc go BP i did years ago i couldn't believe why i didn't do it sooner.. oh yeah i remember i was a cheap skate.. i wanted to be fast, get a lil faster, wanted a lil more zoom-zoom. BUT i didn't want to spent more than 50 buck.. well it doesn't work that way..
$1,000 later BP motor, wiring harness and ECU + labor who would have thought i have about a mid 15 sec MX-3.(couple minor bolts on up grades). 15.6@87 on slicks.. this was in stock OEM before i went all out in my mx-3..
im not conmplaining i see ya searching.... I say just go BP swap you will love it.. i did long ago..
