I'm new to the mx3 world

I own a 1993 mx6 v6 its fast but selling it. I bought a 4 cylinder 1993 mx3. I dont know what time of eninge it is. My friend has also an mx3 but with a protoge engine in it. He said i should do that swap. His redline is 7000 rpm and says he can go to 7750 rpm wihtout engine harm. I could get a v6 but no enough work room for turbo anyway with the gas price over $3 here in AZ i needed a I4. anyways should i do the Protoge swap its a 1993 engine. I looked around all that comes up is BPT or B8. i need help. I can get a cheap protoge and just remove the engine and ecu with the harness. and ideas?

yeah bp(protege engine) is good if it has v.i.c.s. on it its even better..and if you have a 93 i4 then you have the single cam...so..all you need is the bp motor and ecu, everything else you have will bolt right up, you wont need the harness or anything you CAN use the protege's transmission but the stock b6de's tranny has longer gearing. get the motor and ecu, and you can swap it in, in one day.

u will need the protege harness makes it plug and play instead of using the sohc harness where u'll need to cut extend and splice. u get the protege harness and u'll have all that shyt u will have to do.

i thought you only needed the harness if it was 94 plus, or extend and cut the stock one..i heard sohc is the same?

no you still need the harness,but no splicing is needed with the sohc's, for the 94+ you need the harness, splice, dash wiring. thats why people choose to switch to a 92-93 dash to make it plug in play for 94+.

you need the protege harness to make it plug in play, if you dont use it you have to extend and splice the sohc harness.

umm yea. so the soch tranny is better for the bp engine. i can get the engine and the ecu w/ harness cheap at the junk yard. also is the bpt a protege engine but with turbo?

BPT is the same as BP just turboed, and different manifolds. I have a BP with all the BPT turbo parts switched over.( blew up the BPT so I swapped in a BP.

If you can, get the tranny with the engine( with all the mounts and jack shaft), but if not you still can use the 1.6L tranny.

Get the harness too, dont half a-- it and splice the 1.6 harness, It will make it alot easier in the long run.

you can use you sohc tranny no problems, i hear from many good sources its longer gearing so you get your gears for longer time..also, the bpT comes out of the mazda 323 gtx....its a good motor, HOWEVER you are better buying a bp with v.i.c.s. out of a protege...the reason for that is it has a better flowing head then the bpt so its capable of much more with the turbo, plus youll have the v.i.c.s. wich if you dont know what that is basically (from what i know) when you hit the full throttle it will open up a secondary intake for more air then just the intake...its mazdas competition for hondas retarded vtack

Variable Resonance Induction System or
Variable Length Intake Manifold (VLIM) is an automobile engine manifold technology. As the name implies, VLIM can vary the length of the intake tract in order to optimize power and torque, as well as provide better fuel efficiency.

There are two main effects of variable intake geometry:

* Swirl - Variable geometry can create a beneficial air swirl pattern in the combustion chamber. The swirls help distribute the fuel and form a homogeneous air-fuel mixture which ignites without engine knocking. At low rpm, the speed of the airflow is increased by directing the air through a longer path with limited capacity (i.e., cross-sectional area), but the shorter and larger path opens when the load increases so that a greater amount of air can enter the chamber. In DOHC designs, the air paths are often connected to separate intake valves so the shorter path can be excluded by de-activating the intake valve itself.
* Pressurization - A tuned intake path can have a light pressurizing effect similar to a low-pressure supercharger due to Helmholtz resonance. However, this effect occurs only over a narrow engine speed band. A variable intake can create two or more pressurized "hot spots", increasing engine output.

Many automobile manufacturers use similar technology with different names. Another common term for this technology is Variable Resonance Induction System (VRIS).


VICS doesnt really matter with turbo.

Get what you can get then work from there. I have noticed alot of myths on here about the BP and BPT swaps. I have done both more or less. VICS is good at NA form but with forced induction it doesnt matter.

Yes the BP heads have a better flow, which is good for NA and turbo, but if you go turbo you will need the turbo cams( Im note sure of the horsepower from the cams but it will be safer on the turbo with these cams). The BPT has a lower compression piston then the BP. BPT 8 to1 and BP 9 to 1.

If you want to go turbo, its alot easier to start out with the BPT.
If you want to go NA then the BP will be fine.

anyways, what year 323 gtx does it have to be to get the engine? i'm sorry if im asking to much questions. is that i want to get everything done over the summer break.

The BPT is a turbocharged and intercooled variant of the BP. It produced 179 hp (134 kW) and 174 ft·lbf (237 N·m) of torque.


Applications:

* 1989-1994 Mazda Familia GT-X (Japan)
* 1992-1993 (BPD) Mazda Familia GT-R / GTAe (Japan)
* 1989-1994 Ford Laser TX3 turbo (Australia)
* Ford Laser GT-X

You will need some time to install this engine. If you have done this install before you will be fine. My first time it took 2 weeks for me by myself to get it all good and running. The 2nd time took 2 days but I had most the work done the first time.
