Got a valve timing question...

In the online shop manual, it shows a star shaped edge that you point the cam gears towards, unfortunately my friends DOHC doesn't have that star pattern, so my question is the lines in the cams with the I and E next to them, when faced in the proper direction the lines directly above the I and E on the cam gear face eachother horizonally?

That is...

__ __
I E
\ /

Like that?

Thanks for the help.. search wasn't too helpful in the matter.

Thanks. The I and E are backwards... :| We'll give that a try.

That star shaped deal on the head is part of the casting. The lines on the cam sprockets should point at the corresponding lines csat into the head. Then you turn the engine over almost 2 revolutions to take the tension of the back side of the timing belt and loosen the tensioner bolt to allow it to take the slack. Tighten the tensioner and then turn the engine over again back to TDC and verify that the marks still align.

Bob's you uncle.
