Short Shifter

I havn't seen this discussed on the forums before... so its probably a stupid question.
Why do companies like corksport offer those shiny short shifter kits for $100+? Wouldn't cutting the stick down a couple inches achieve the same thing? Especially if your knob doesnt screw on, but clamps on.
If nobody explains to me why this would be a bad idea I'll definately be doing it.

a short shifter is not a regular shifter that is simply short... blah i dont feel like explaining lol

A short shifter isnt just a shorter shift rod. It changes the pivot point of the shifter.. this allows for quicker gear changes. If you chop your shifter.. it will indeed be shorter.. but you will not have changed your pivot point and you will find that shifter will not be any quicker and it will likely be a bit harder to shift even.

I thought that was probably it.
I got the idea from the celica that my friend bought. The previous owner just cut the stock shifter. It is extremely hard to shift (for me anyway), but it is a little faster.
I think I'll just leave mine alone, thanks.

just fork over the $100 and get a pacesetter (it's shiny AND adjustable
)
one of the best mods on both my cars! You can reduce the throw by 80%! Although I had my exhaust routed around it since mine was so low
I had a B&M at first but it only reduced the throw by 42% and it wasn't adjustable! The pacesetter is like $50 cheaper!
