Replacing glass

So, I'm on my way to work last night and I get to my car and I freeze. Some F@*% broke into my car by smashing my driver window. I think my deductible is a rediculous $1000. I don't think a proffesional replacement would even cost that much right? Either way, I can't afford a grand right now so I'm thinking of replacing it myself as I've found one for $40 at a yard. Is this easier/harder than I think? Will I be wasting my time? I have power windows. Any suggestions? The search only found me "how to" swap from a manual to a power widow.
Thanks
Jay

Its pretty simple really.. I had to replace my window crank assembly in my RS not to long ago and you have to remove the glass to do so. So its essentially the same job. There are only a couple of bolts that hold the glass to the mechanism.. might be slightly different for power windows.. but its not like it will be rocket science. Just take your time and if you think you will have any problems.. take lots of digital pics so you can post pics with specific questions. Cheers

Pages S-010 and S-011 of online shop manual shows how to remove door panel etc and glass. Straightforward repair/replacement.

I've removed the panel. No problem. Actually, Iwas shocked to see that the panel was held on by only three screws! Anyway, I did look at the online manual and it doesn't explain what this 1'1/2'' white plastic part was for. Since my glass was shattered it had made all these random peices fall out of place. I do however see where the two retaining bolts for the window are but still I'm left with that random peice. I couldn't even try to match it up with anything but it's so hard to see the inside of the door and I really don't want to remove the auto regulator. Any idea what this white plastic part is anyone?

when you get your replacement one you'll have better idea how it goes in. What plastic piece are you talking about? Its probably left over from shattered glass. If you can post pics.
