Indigo Gauges?? Help with Install.

Alright... I've been to the FAQ's and either everybody else is full of BULL, really forgetful, or maybe I'm just an idiot.

Here's my problem, I tried an install of some really cool indiglo Gauges. Pretty simple process for the most part. It took a few minutes to find the screws at the bottom of the faceplate behind the steering coumn but smooth sailing from there on.

I contest that you CAN NOT just slip the new gauges over the old ones! The base of the needles is wider than the holes on the ne gauges, plus the needles extend in both directions making it impossible to just slip over even if the holes were the same diameter.

So.... What gives? Obviously others have installed their gauges without dificulty. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you overcome it?

Problem 2: I took the needles off to be able to get the gauges on (OOOOOooohhhh, you shouldn't have done that!) yes, I know. Now nothing reads properly and I busted my Fuel needle. What I am asking is... if there are any tricks that you guys neglected to tell us begginers, because I plan to get a second set of gauges and try again. Unless someone can tell me how to reset or repair my currently disfunctional gauges.

Any help would be appreciated.

They do and they don't it's not easy, but I did make some shortcuts to diminish the odds of me breaking any needles. I had SpeedHut guags, which is a reputable place to get guage overlays. Getting the cheeper knock-offs may be give you the same quality, or care for installation as they do. But I have bad luck, so I tried to make sure I didn't break anything.

I did 2 farily simple things

Image

1- First, I noticed I could get the guage over both temp and fuel guages, but not over the clock set dial, so I cut a slit, so i could go over the needles, than just split it to go around the dial. It's not noticable, which ironicly in that pic (I only have a few of my guages, and my car is 1000kms away) the dial is covering the slit, but you can't tell its there.

2- I shaved off the end of the stock needle on the speedo and tach. I had a hard time getting it over and around, so i shaved that section off. When you do, make sue the lower part is shaved off smooth and roundd so nothing will come close to the guage face. I did it on Kp2t's guages, but I didn't have my Dremel on me, I tried cutting it away, but I couldn't get the lower part smooth enough and his tach kept on sticking.[/img]

Thanx for site Custommx3

Great tips Nd4SpdSe, wish I had thought of that before pulling the needles off! The gauges look awesome, they're just pretty much useless now. I'm not sure if I can cut the faceplates because they are Indiglo... won't that ruin the gauges?

Speedhut guages are indiglo as well. I though the same thing, but the guages work onthe principle of putting electricity to it. As long as the piece isn't isolated to the piece that's receiving the electric signal, no problem. There's no special wired runing on the outside or anything...Cutting into is like cutting the holes for the needles. There's no special power ring or wires on the outside edge of the guages. I dont have a pic on me, but my guages are working, have been for a good 4 years now
