Knock Sensor check? resistance, capacitance?

ok, guys. not too sure how these knock sensors work, but I am getting a check engine code 05. I tried doing a continuity check on my knock sensor at the connector and it read open. Is that OK, or is there supposed to be some resistance value (ohms)?

has anyone ever checked those. I need to make sure the sensor is actually faulty as I refuse to do that much disassembley to change a sensor that is perfectly fine. thanks

The knock sensor is just a microphone. I dont know how it works tho.. it has a negative and positive cable. I remmber paying 99 dllrs for that sensor and had to order for a probe gt.

Thanks for the reply. I actually went to the junkyard today and tested 3 of them on some 2.5 V6's. they all read open. They must me some sort of capacitor type device. unless all those happen to be bad also.

QUESTION:

Has anyone ever replaced the sensor, due to the knock sensor code (05) on the check engine light, and that not resolve the problem???

thanks guys.

Yes I replaced it and it did solve the problem. Reset codes after replacing.
