150mph on an rs? Right....

Ok as some of you may know i bought an 95' 1.6 mazda mx3 RS and so many things were fixed on it,
New Radiator
Fuel Pump
Fuel filter
Front Axle
Timing belt and it was adjusted
New Head job and valve job
and some other little things
however it says my car can get up to 150mph however it struggles just going up to 105mph... i got it up to 110 but thats by using the hold button and having my RPM's going sky high and i don't want to go past 6000rpm
What else could be wrong? I have fixed so many things on this stupid car and put in more then 700 bucks and the acceleration still sucks for some reason, like when i hit the gas pedal the needle wont move until i get up to about 10mph, i was thinking maybe it has to do something with my timing but it was just adjusted by a close friend but maybe he didn't do it right, i don't know... however I've done so much so if anyone can help please let me know! I have to have this car its my baby! Thanks.

That same speedo is in the V6 GS MX-3 as well as the RS. Not that the GS can peg 150mph either but you def won't see that in the 95 RS. Now if ya wanna see a bit more responsive acceleration when ya punch the throttle, replace that stock paper filter with a K&N drop-in mesh filter or put in a CAI. Either of those mods will open up a nice lil accel power band, when you first hit the gas and especially from ~1800 rpm to 4500rpm, even with your ATX. My MX-3 is also the 95 4-banger (w/MTX) and performance-wise, the K&N filter (later I put in a CAI instead) gave most bang for da buck of any engine mod. K&N filter is only ~$40 USD and drops into the stock airbox.
Remember though - ya aren't likely to peg that speedo on your ride at 150 mph - evah! g/l oh, and welcome to the board!

just boosted it like i did i ran a 12.8@110 but there's a catch i put around $6000 to be where iam at now and still have more to go. put more bolt on's to ur RS i was barely in low 15's with the BP 1.8 dohc in my mx-3 all motor.

I found your problem, it's an automatic.
And you arn't going to hit 150. My stock RS is in great shape, it hits 105 easy and still pulls strong up untill 120, which is where it starts toping off. I don't know if it can go faster, i've never tried. It was still accelerating, but at the rate it was going it wasn't going to get much faster.

i had a 93 RS, doing 90 was a chore, but you have the DOHC and a tid bit more HP than that SOHC had

i have a manual rs and my car would do the same thing, just struggle past 95, it felt like wind resistence or somthing was holding my car back. i got a weapon-r intake, and a performance header, and a whole catback system that took out the catalytic converters, and now it can get up to 112 before she starts struggleing.

aww man that sucks... the car looks so darn fast but i guess you have to put tons of money in it to get like that... i had a chevy malibu classic '04 and it was faster then most cars and it was just stock... it had a ecotec 2.2 engine in it though... i could go from 0-60 in about 10 seconds or sooner. I was able to keep up with most sport cars that have put some work into their own cars.
It just sucks that this car looks fast but it really isn't....my 1988 Mercury Tracer could beat this car and its the same size engine but you think cause its a later car it would be faster :P

Actually the RS and GS gauges are a little different, yet read the same.
I have had my RS up to 130, took a while, but it got there. It only had 28K miles on it though... and that was 9 years ago

My 93 Rs can do 190 Km(about 120mph) like nothing, and still has plenty of space to go higher.

I just don't understand the car lol isn't a twin cam supposed to be some what decent? I clocked myself from 0-60 in 15 seconds... sometimes higher and my tracer could do about 10 i'm new to cars but i think mazda should have made the car fast being it looks like a speed demon :P once its paid off i'm going to invest in something a little better... maybe an RX-7 or 8, those things can go fast! :P

Have you ever actually driven 150? I've only hit 130mph and thats pretty scary. I'd have to be really really comfortable with a road (and the car) before I ever attempt to go higher.
Your car is old, things wear out. Your O2 sensors might be dead, your TPS might be off, or maybe your timing is off. Could be a lot of things. Take some time to get to know your car. Only through good maintanence can you keep a car riding fast.

first the car is 1.6L. not really a big displacement engine, friction and drivetrain really do drain some HP from this thing. not only that but im not sure of the automatic transmission, but that cuts down on your HP to.
if its a manual its geared for acceleration, not top end.
theres more to a fast car than top speed. in fact in my mind its quite the opposite.

well when had the BP swap in my 92 MX-3 with just a cai, getto exhaust system, act clutch xtreme, rx-7 vaf i got it up to 135mph took a little while.
BOOSTED i get up to 145mph just floor it in 5th gear with ease. i know i can max out 5th gear but why do it considering all the money i spent just to loose control going faster than 150mph down the road. anything can happen u know.

My 94 RS runs great, bought it at 75K miles.. its a manual, and when i hit 120 it starts to struggle and i have only done an exhust system on it so far, now acceration sucks really bad..i mean 1st gear is great but 3rd drags in my car..i think it will pick up once i start puttin some topend mods on it..good luck..oh n thanx again guys i would have my Mx if it wasnt for yall..

Much the truth. The acceleration on the MX3 I just bought (94 RS 1.6L DOHC 5-spd) is pretty crisp, but I mean we have all ridden in/driven/seen/whatever fast cars and the MX3 doesn't have top speed.
The few times I have taken it on some twisties, though, the transmission has proven to be great for high-revving and engine braking and the car's size, suspension, and body shape really allow for some great corners.
So yea. "There's more to a fast car than top speed" is dually noted.
