well, i have been asked about making thies several times in the past few months.

so Before i just go and make everything, i wanted to see how many people where actually intrested in purchasing a set, before i start a GB.

They would be hand laid 4 layers of fiberglass, sanded, then test fitted to my car, and primered. each set would run 250 + shipping.

I need at least 4 deticated people before i talk to the Mods about starting a GB. After the GB goes threw then 20 % down would be required for Production. Production would run aproxamatly one month depending on how many sets i have to make.

all input concerns, welcome.

Interested depending on pics of your other completed work. Fiberlgass is easy enough, but making a quality product is much harder. What mold method will you use, what brand of resin, what type of glass, are they heat cured, are they gel coated, and other ?s. I know that making FG pieces can be expensive and for 250 I want to make sure it is not for a product that is going to break at every bump.

Ver interested as well, have the money in hand for this, but also wonder like Pat what products and methods are going to be used here.

well there are a few different mold methods i might use. most likley it will be a fiberglass mold just like almost every bodykit manufacture uses. But if there is enough intrest i might go with a Urathane mold. its pricy but its way easier to use in the long run. But the fiberglass molds will be made with a Isophthalic resin.

and i will use a 1.5 oz chop mesh fiberglass, with a Polyester Hydrex or general pourpose Boat resin for the sideskirts, either is sutable. Yes they will be Gelcoated. the resin is designed to cure at room temprature. so no need for excess heat.

im all about doing things rite. the last thing i want to do is give myself a bad name on the forum. and i dont want to screw anyone. i know too many on here personally. Trust me 4 layers of this stuff, and they definatly arnt going to break. the reason most of the front bumpers break is due to the manufacture spraying the resin into the molds, rather than hand laying them. by spraying the glass and resin in the mold it makes it really brittle. I just want to help people get a really clean looking skirt for a decent price, I just dont see why some people charge so frekin much for things.

Trust me alot is going into this, and just for supplys its a lot of money. so 250 is well worth it.

you all have seen my Rad post. im picky as hell, and im not about to send someone something that i wouldent use.

I believe that you will do good work, if this goes through I am definately down. How are these mounted? With screws front and back and 3M tape?

I suggest using a 2 piece compression mold. It works best on handlaid pieces and presses most of the air out that doesn't get out with the squeege when you apply the resin. The mold will need to be 6-7 layers thick to resist warping from the curing heat and stresses of you pulling plugs out of the mold. I also suggest using a twil type FG instead of chop. Twil is much stronger and more flexable. It costs more, but you could do with two layers instead of four. This makes the manu process much quicker and they need some flex to absorb impact without cracking. The last thing anyone wants is a super stiff piece of FG hanging down from the car that is going to tear at the scew points. It is alot easier to fix a side skirt than a rear quarter panel. Other than that I'm going to hold out until I see some pics of the mold and maybe even a trial run. Good luck though.

how much would urethane cost?

Impossible, the machine to inject the urethane is 10,000 for a small one. One large enough to make skirts would cost upwards of 50K and be used at that. Then you still don't have a mold, and that would likely cost the same as the machine.

There better be interest. Mind you, I'm sure there are plenty of people who will want these, and just not posting it, or need to wait until later in the year (maybe spring/summer)...X-mas is an expensive season.

Although I don't need them, I hope for the sake of the Mx-3 that these get done. A replica is long overdue due to the fact that they are no longer available by any means (except for the rare used set of course).

The sad part is that everyone wants them until it comes time to buy them.
