timing

hey guys im kinda new to cars, my dad and i were trying to time my car. on the plastic thing it says 0 10 and T now is advancing my timing going towards the T or the 0? its at 4 i think right now. thanks

If you hear the idle go up then you are advancing the timing. Did you remember to jump the pin out on the diagnosis box? You have to jump ten and ground in the box to set the timing. Do you have an ajustable timing light?

ya i put the wire on the points in the diag box, i turned the disty clockwise and the rpms go up and the mark goes back and towards the 0 mark on the spot. is that right? my brother says it should be moving towards the T to advance it. i have 2 marks on my crank do you know which one i follow? yes i have a timing light, its a crappy one from autozone but it gets the job done

I think its 10 degrees off of TDC is the correct timing, I dont have my manual in front of me, so if Im wrong, someone correct me.

The correct setting is 10 degrees Before TDC, with the jumper inserted in the diagnostic block. There's a "10" on the scale on the timing belt cover.
