i'm no paint specialist but does it make sense to use a paint thats prone to failure??? would not using a different red be better?

Blaze red is prone to failure? Didnt know that....My point is I am gonna paint it the same color, if like you say blaze red is prone to failure I'll match the existing paint with paint from another manufacturer. I know my body guy wont be painting door jams and under the hood, so I wanna stick with the same color.

It was a great color when new and yeah I doubt the body man would use old crappy Mazda paint

Check into the paint products from http://www.alsacorp.com
I have their cd-rom and the paint they have is AWESOME. If I new about them before I painted, I would have used their stuff.

OUTSTANDING, glad to hear it. Perhaps a bit of pearlescent might add a nice touch without compromising the overall integrity. BTW, the previous owner probably didn't replace the other panels because it would be quite costly to repair as opposed to going to the wreckers for just the front fender. Rear panel can only be repaired, not replaced.

does anybody know how much paint i would need to buy to cover the whole car minus the hood? another way to ask this question would be, does anybody know the overall area of the mx3 exterior?

Oh i knew the rear qt cant be replaced lol. My friend has a black prelude and when he opens the door you can see the previous red paint

same with his engine compartment...
