Huge Misfire!!!!

Ok I am having huge issues here!

A couple days ago the car felt a bit sligish when I took it to 5000rpm with 3/4 throttle... didnt think much of it, thougt it was some bad plugs, so I didnt worry... Then tonight I was on the highway and it started bogging and misfiring and backfiring suddenly at 120 km/h and when i gave it more gas it would hickup alot but also the tach started jumping up and down like it was getting power surges....

Previous to this, I had a charge light come on and off and changed my alternator yesterday, so I am not sure if this is related or unrelated, but as I said it was slugish before the alternator

I am thinking alternator was fine but the Coil was on its way out since I do have an HEI mod done

Help Please!!!!

Who did the HEI mod? Are all of the connections and gauge wiring correct? What's the condition of the plug wires and the engine grounding wires?

I am thinking its the Coil, just because the tach goes all funny too
plugs were changed the day before the ottawa meet

I bet ya 99% its the coil inside the stock OEM disty. You can do the external coil HEI mod by drilling a hole into your disty cap and adding a tower. Or if you want a reliable and clean setup Do this

KLZE distributor

MSD Blaster SS Coil

HEI Module

That should do the trick. It did for me. My car never started at all. I did the HEI mod and its tarted and had amissfire in the mid rpm range. I then went and did this and its perfect now.

You think your HEI coil is toast??? Don't usually see that happen often.
I do have an HEI mod done
Perhaps it's still under warranty. Was the proper sized (gauge) wiring and connectors used for the HEI? How's the grounding on that as well as the engine grounds?

I'm not to pro on this, but since the tach is connected to the coil, and is tach is all over the place, wouldn't that not point to the coil?

The coil does not control the timing of the spikes that the tach reads from.

We may have fixed the problem today after meeting of mazda's. There wa s a ground on the harness for the vris solinoids that wasn't connected. We replaced fuel filter and found out that his ZE disty he baught from an importer is no good. he is using my ze disty right now. So he needs to return teh otehr one under warranty. Still can't rely on the car now it still may come back.
