I am the new owner of a neglegted 1993 MX3 and while replacing the front brake pads I wanted to go ahead and replace the bearing because there is some play side to side. I took the front of the brake caliper off and then removed the axel nut but the rotor will not come off. Am I missing something?? Any help would be appreciated.

They rust on pretty well. A rubber mallet and a good swing will usualy get it off. If not then a hammer hitting a block of wood resting on the rotor should get it. WD-40 or some other penetrating oil if it is a real pain, but only as a last resort. The oil can cause loss of brakes if it gets onto the brake parts.

the rotor will come off with a good hit to the face of the rotor, by the face i mean the space between the studs.

but anyways you cant change the front wheel bearing at home unless you have a press. its a press in wheel bearing, most machine shops can do this for 20-50 bucks

Thank you for responding, I will give those suggestions a try. I just didn't want to tear something up by overlooking something simple.

That's what brake cleaner is for.

Use PB Blaster, if you haven't gotten it off yet. I had the same problem last year. I bought a can from Autozone and it came off easily after 10 minutes.

On the rotor, there should be a bolt hole. Find a bolt that fits, which I'm pretty sure is one of your caliper bolts, and screw it in. It will push the rotor out.

Thanks to all for the help, I got it off and also had to replace the ball joint. Car is now 'on the road' and doing good.
