What the hell is this? is it the EGR port?

yep, it's where the egr tube from the exhaust manifold goes in on the millenia.

A pipe plug works if you are trying to plug it.

i thought all cars in japan had no egr setup

They don't, thats y there is no EGR valve on that manifold. The gold plate that is bolted there would need to be removed and then the EGR valve would bolt up.

The hole should not be plugged, thats the way it comes from Japan.

I got my Millenia IM from a junkyard in the US. We plugged the hole. Works fine for me.

OK. I'm sorry to jack your thread but, I think this is the perfect opportunity to ask this question. I'm still a newb. So, for those of us (ZE drivers) who are concerned about not passing emissions testings, why couldn't we use this EGR set up? Is it possible to swap the EGR valve off the K8 since there isn't one on this IM? We're required to use the original exhaust mani to fit the exhaust pipe anyway, so why couldn't we just take off the plate and run the original EGR tube into it. I've shown this before and asked this same question with practically the same kind of picture but, no one gave an answer. Anyone please?
Thanks,
Jay

you could do it. thing is I'm not sure if the k8 egr will bolt up (maybe different hole pattern ?) One thing for sure is the millenia egr would bolt on there.

Ha! I knew it! Thanks, BabyBlue. Now, I wonder why everyone who has had problems passing emissions with their ZEs haven't tried this approach. Is it because an EGR system would take away HP? Also, could you still use the KL36 ECU knowing that they were used on cars that did not have an EGR sysytem? Switch to a KLDE ECU perhaps?

K8's have a closer fuel map to a ZE than KLDE's fuel maps do.

I'd try a k8 ECU.

You can use the EGR from the Millenia Manifold and hook it up to the headers, but the wire clip that goes on the Millenia EGR valve is diffeent that our K8 wire harness has.

Yes, you can swap over the EGR setup from the K8, or KL for that matter. It will bolt up fine, i have done this many times. BUT the reason that won't really help is because the heads have the passage ways for the EGR gases, BUT the Millenia manifold DOES NOT have the passage for the gases to go back into the manifold. So it will be there for the VISUAL purpose only and not functionality.

We have no probelm passing emissions here in California with ZE's. And i hook them up with the EGR and everything for Visual purposes only. So the ZE's we test pass the emissions test WITHOUT a EGR. :D

The EGR system does take away power, because it recylces the gases, but under WOT the EGR system stops working and your car will run as if the EGR was never there.

If you use a KL-36 ECU, it will not know a EGR is there, since it never came with one. So no matter if the EGR is hooked up it would not be functional.

You best bet to have a functional EGR is to use a K8 ECU or KL ECU. But then ur VRIS will be off and the timing/fuel is different.

Okay, my situation is kind of different. I have two EGRs. One on the top of the millenia intake, which isnt hooked up(plan on taking it off and putting a plate on), and the other is on the right side of the engine kind of above and behind the tranny, its hooked up and working. I talked to an emissions guy and here in utah, we are required to have an EGR, they dont test to see if its working, they just do a visual check to see if its there. Now, I am not really sure where the other EGR came from, I figured one was pulled off my K8 and the other came with the Millenia intake...but you guys claim the Mil intake isnt supposed to have one?
