idle

When the clutch is in, and it is in gear (1st through 5th, including reverse), the engine idle hunts (goes from 500 rpm up to about 1500 rpm and then back down again, over and over). This goes away when i put it in neutral with the clutch still in.
I've checked for vacuum leaks and found nothing. Clutch issue? Seems more like a sensor somewhere
any help?

This situation may resurface. Since you've currently solved it with a cleaning of the EGR valve, I would suspect that the TB, IM and intake tubing is also quite in need of cleaning. That hunting can be the result of other things that may need attention in the near future. Sensors that detect that the clutch is in and that a gear has been selected is sent to the ECU whereupon it will automatically kickdown the idle trying to raise it by a few hundred rpms in preparation of gear engagement. A normal function of the K8 ECU provided that eveythiong else is in a good state of tune. That higher idle kickdown will drop offf once the clutch has been let off.
