looks neat

but water aaa its the enemy for cais specially at freeway speeds..the cai can suck up ALOT of water.

His car is primarily a track car.. and he lives in California so I doubt water will be that much of an issue for him.. but the performance increase.. heck thats practically ram air now.. I saw a episode of Muscle Car where they fabbed up a dual scoop CAI for some crappy El Camino.. Cool concept.. waste of time on the car they put it in.

I've never had a problem with any kind of sucking up water out here on my last several cars, and thos CAI were lower to the floor..lol.
Either way the watter has a long a-- way to make it up and through the VAF before it gets inside the motor, and by that time the car would bog out. I am not worried.
Man, oh man, this thing really gets up and moving when i am jamming on the freeway. It made such a big a-- difference...no joke. We even did a comparison.

When ever we ran before it was close, and actually the times we ran top end, he would start to catch me in 5th.
We went and ran the other day again, top end. 2nd gear roll and as soon as we hit the gas i pulled about 2 c/l ahead, and hit 3rd and started walking away, i went to about 120 MPH, and at that point i was like 6 c/l ahead of him. I thought something was wrong, but we did it like 3 times, and my friend had to confirm he was boosting 16 lbs..lol.

Intresting theory I should tell that to my kfze that go hydrolocked from sucking in water through the CAI.

I hear all these stories about people doing that...it just doesn't make sense. i always drive in the rain and like i said before all my other cars had CAI that sat lower and i never had a problem.. i dunno

Ram air effect has it's merits (as depicted in my Fall post on Jerry Sica's 10.5 sec NA ZE powered Probe) as Tune's said when applied correctly - track or dry weather only applications. Since this appears to still be a daily driver, as Mnemonic said not such a good idea (potential hydrolock). Wonder if we'll see Slammed6 searching for replacement ZE engine when his eventually chokes.

If he lived in washington state and drove it daily during the winter.. he might have issues.. but in Cali.. I am not even sure they know what rain is

haha, hey we got some sprinkles going on right now. But i believe the last time it "rained" or sprinkled was a long a-- time ago.

why dont you just put a catch can in it so it looks like this

honestly, there is no way for the intake to suck up water, unless it is submerged.
The intake is protected by the bumper from water splashing on it, and the filter is still at least a good 12" off the floor. I spent all day driving in the storm going on here, and i have had no problems.
I just never understood how people suck up a huge amount of water through a 2.5"-3" pipe thats probably 24" in length or longer, and on top of that suck it vertically, and through the VAF. You would seriously have to be like at WOT and then quickly submerge the intake pipe in water. Any small drops of water would most likely be disapated before getting into the head of the engine cause then its like 800 degrees.

It's raining like crazy out here. First time in a long time tho. The weather got really toasty for a whole week, so I through my cai in and, as the fates would have it, it starts raining the next day

. Tonight will be the first time i've driven with a cai in the rain and i'm actually pretty scared. Not about water comming in from the bottom, but of the small amount of water that gets between the hood and the fender and then drains down into where the filter is located.
An hour to go before I leave and I'm seriously shaking in my boots. I'll post back in a few hours on how it goes....
