well i got my engine checked due to the previous overheating and what not and they told me i need a new engine, and a new clutch

the estimated cost for this is 3000$ since they charge me 1000$ for labour

Anyone here think it's worth fixing?

I won't be able to get any money for this thing since the person who buys it will have to put 3000$ into unless they are a mechanic and know how to install an engine

I think you better shop around... that sounds kinda high. Might look into getting a junkyard engine and throwing that in, instead of getting it rebuilt if that's what they're gonna do.

well it's a 93 1.6 sohc and im from canada

i believe they gave me an estimate for a used motor obviously but i have no idea what kind or how much mileage. That's definitly something i'd look into before going any further. And oh yeah... how much are Volkswagons to fix?

You think $3000 is high for fixing a Mazda... just wait till you dwell into VDubs... lmao, hope you are rich like a German Engineer.

dang i bought my 1.6 dohc for 200 from a junk yard but i pulled it myself and installed it myself to 3000 is really high cause even calling around i have found some for like 4-500 but it could be different here in cali then out there.

in my shop we shoot high on all repairs so the estamates are high and we have room for the unexpected. but... in texas 1.6 sohc i would not pay more than $500 and charge the cust a grand then it calls for 9 to 11 hours of labor so $700 to $900 in labor then if you want new tb wp dis clutch plugs wires hoses tstat the price goes up and up with the more new parts you need. so if $3000 = used engine with lots of new parts than ok price . if $3000 = used engine new cluch and thats it than its a grand to high.

also if you can find a compitant shop a dohc swap is the same ammount of work if the salvage yard is cool with throin in the motor mounts and ecu

Damn your shop is a rip off if they would charge 100% mark up on the engine and almost $100/hour for labor

yea 100% parts mark up is the norm for most shops that survive and only repair wat is realy needed and $80 per hour is low in my area

you pay for wat you get!

my side work is $40 per hour and the cust buys the parts. no warranty
