Introducing the new Mazda concept vehicle, the Mazda SENKU.

All photos were taken by yours truly, at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto on February 18th, 2006.

Sorry if the quality of the pics are not the best.

Enjoy!

I love the design.. but I do see a possible flaw.. that is a HUGE door.. even if it were made of aluminum.. it would be heavy as heck. Gonna need some beefy door mounts to support that sucker for more than a few years.

But I love the lines of the car.. nice and sleek. Dont care for their choice of rims.. but they do work well enough with the car to keep the look clean.

The doors were shut on the Senku, while I was there, but I do recall seeing that the door opens like a mini-van slider side door or something.

We all know since it is a concept, if it makes it to production it won't look identical to that anyways...

How would one see behind them? I understand it's a concept car, but do concepts generally lack both side view mirrors AND no read window?

I'm also not fond of overfenders, but they seem to be all the rage nowdays.

One of these days car companies will get back on track..

The side mirrors, I am sure were simply removed to make the car look cleaner and with smoother lines.

I am just guessing here, but I recall seeing what looked like a camera lens mounted in the lower portion of the rear bumper. (In the lower right triangle area.) as seen in the zoomed in photo below:

More then likely, there is a large screen built in the dash that shows the visual behind the vehicle.

Also, the Senku has a lower rear window much like the MX-3 has only much larger. The driver could use this window to view the rear using the Rear view mirror. I beleive the first generation Honda CRX also had this type of window.

For those interested in seeing how the door opens, I was too lazy to get my scanner out, so I used my digital camera to capture a couple images that were in the local papers here.

I could have sworn that the Senku has ALOT of camera around the car
