Does the KL-ZE really push out 200hp? I have seen someof your guys dino's and it didn't really seem like that.

195 is the rated power at the crank. You lose hp throught the drivetrain.

And then after the fact, people may recoup some HP through additional mods - headers/exhaust, CAI, disty mods, lightened flywheel etc.

Well why i am asking this is because i have a strong 135,000 on my K8 right now. Just got done paying it off!! YAHOO!! but i was thinking about saving up some and i am getting a large sum from taxes so i was thinking about getting my headers exhaust done i got plans already for my suspention and i got the money already for that. and get like a large TB some other moddes that i can do to get some more power out of this K8 for i really go to a KL-ZE because my car still pulls hard and it has a lot of life left in it. So i was thinking about adding some more modes before i go to the KL-ZE plus i can always add these moes to the KL-ZE to.

Im sorry to say but the k8 sucks..doesnt compare to any other k series..even my crap kf engine feels WAY betrter than the k8. you can put some headers to the k8 and proably gain around 8 hp and some cai. for that exact money you would spend on those mods you can get a cheap klde or even a ze. Trust me the k8 is a sorry engine... all of us have had it before our swaps of course and anyone can tell you its a totally different world with a swap.

i can vouche for it to. i had the k8 like a few days ago no matter what i did i didnt feel an improvemnt in power an intake was the ONLY the that was noticeable but still didnt do much. i picked up a kl-de for 250 bucks and i can assure u for the 4 mins i had in it with a slipping tranny it was a HELL OF ALOT MORE POWER than the k8 could EVER be srry to say i though i had faith in the k8 like u do now but seriously even the de u should be more than satisfied if u think the k8 is quick
maybe its just the engine but i have had rides in 2 ze mx-3's and when my car got in a kickdown gear i swear it moved almost as fast literally

id say screw the k8 rip it out as soon as possible if you start modding it your only creating more work for yourself in the future. also by the money you would have spent on mods to get it that high you could have bought the ze in the first place, i dunno i would always start with the fastest base motor to start then mod of that, like starting with a good foundation.

K8 rated at 135 hp(?) at the crank and a ZE rated at 195 hp at the crank. Everything being equal, you'll have about 108 (?) whp from the K8 and about 160-170 whp from the ZE. So there's still going to be a realization of approximately 60hp difference no matter how you slice it.

Yeah good call. Sure you can try to hop up the engine you have now and transfer your mods over to a new engine later on, but the work and money and time you spend now is only a waste.
Perhaps the problem is you think an engine swap is too expensive and difficult. Well I'll tell you now, it isn't.
Headers, exaust, CIA, cams, underdrivepully, and whatever else will be equal to, or greater than the price of a ZE. ($1000).
The dollar per hp on a KLZE is incredible. 5 dollars a horse. Its a better deal.
Perhaps you think its too difficult to install? to big of a deal Well what if you engine died, and you had to get a new K8? Then you'd probably think "yeah its the same engine can't be that hard..". WEll, the KLZE is from the K family, the K8 is from the K family, and anything from the K family is interchangable without any moddification. (Exept liek..clutch and whatever else you want to do to make it faster and better) Its as simple as pulling one out, and putting the other in the exact same way. Not much is differnt when putting in a KLZE or a KLDE or KFZE or a K8.
Also if you do it yourself, you will learn alot about an engine. And while you have the KLZE sitting on an engine stand, you can throw on an underdrive pully, shine up and paint you VC and IM, change you seals, do whatever you want and it'll be way easier..
did i mention that it has 195hp? yeah...in a car that weighs 2800 pounds, thats pretty fast. I mean, you can woop 5.0 mustangs, every acura (exept NSX of course), any honda, even some old lambo's.
it woudl be liek driving a 97 BMW Z3 around. Do it, trust me.

Why do we care about a 2800 lb car? We all drive MX-3's.

The ZE puts out around 165hp at the wheels. Last time I checked mx-3's were around ~2450lbs for a GS.

ya hes right this cars weight is 2400lbs not 2800

2400 on a diet maybe. The gs is more like 2550, which is still very light.

well i am going to save up a little bit first. Because i just got done with the lown for my car. and i want to save some more. Going to finish my suspention get the exhaust all laided out first. Then start saving up because i want to get those stage 2 axles if i get a KL-ZE and they are 600 bucks thats a lot. So I will get as much as i can out of my K8. I will just start buying parts like the ECU for the KL-ZE and the axles. Then i will take a lown out to get the motor.
