O.K. heres the situation i bought a auto mx3 precidia V6 for a good deal 300$, The whole car is pretty clean inside and out.But the only problem is that the tranny is finished.........

So i brought it to my transmision specialist and told me it was cooked so.... three days later i bought a tranny from japan sunrise(in Montreal). But the guy ended up bringing me a Japanese 1.8 4Cyl ?????? from maybe the Mazda 323 1.8?????

I got there my mechanic was not happy at all, He told me he wouldnt install that transmision in the car. Then the guy from montreal is saying yes its a 1.8 but 4 cyl and is saying that he guaranties me it will work.

OK so now im stuck with deciding on a 300$ 1.8 4cyl tranny that might not even work or 2000$ rebuilt transmision.

Anyways thats why i came to you mx3 enthusiasts to see if the 1.8 4cyl will work on my mx3? and if anyone has heard of this transmision.

Thanks boys :)

Well i think the general consensus here is that a tranny from a B-Series (4 cyl) would not bolt up to a K-Series (V6) engine or vice versa. IMO You may be better off finding a replacement transmission or swap one from a mx-6 or millenia or probe or something else.
Disclaimer: I might be wrong about this - so please wait for the tranny kings to jump into the discussion ....

Ha! he guarantees it will work?! I'd get that in writing if i were you!

'fraid not, and i've been told by Mazda specialists that the KL/KF trannies won't fit either...

if you can drive a manual, then that could quite possibly be the cheapest solution

as for the tranny you have, i'd say the parts guy was confused, i'd imagine it would bolt up to a 4cyl, 1.6 MX-3 though

No it will not work, the japanese 1.8 transmission has two pans on it, one on the bottom and one on the side, trust me I have been through this and it will not work.

Tell him you have a single pan transmission and watch the answer change.

yes thats exactly what hapened he got me a 2 oil pan tranny at first, Then he got me a 1 oil pan 1.8L 4cyl.Dont know from witch car they came from? He told me he sold many of them and no one had any problems? So i told him, You guarantie me it will run and drive and told me yes! He even put my old trannys bell housing on the other one and it fitted no problem so maybe it would bolt up?

How come the tranny wont work, Is it just cause its just not compatible? Sorry man sounds stupid but id like to know.

So i dont know do you think hes tryin to pull quick one? Should i not bother?

Thanks for the info boys i appreciate it.

I read that the gs uses electronic speedo gear and the BP might use a cable driven speedo gear (I am not sure about this though).

Another thing is i dont know if the gs ECU would be compatible with the tranny.

Since the space requirements for the 4cyl and v6 are different - i would think that the mount points are different and hence there may be some custom mount fabrication involved?

The gs puts out 130HP/115 ft-lbs whereas the BP puts out 125HP/114ft-lbs - so no problems there.

If the bellhousing swap is good and if the tranny would bolt up and if the first 3 issues are resolved - i guess there is a possibility for a BP tranny to be fitted on to a k8 engine....

 maybe i'm mistaken then!

heck, if he's gonna guarantee it'll work AND can back that up with successful swaps....., what have you got to lose?

perhaps you can get in touch with some of his clients..., see what the story is?

Thanks again for your time and info!

Now see i would of just bought that tranny and took his word but then if its installed and doesnt work its still me thats paying to take it out. So now ive decided to just park it without a tranny and keep my ears open for a transmission for sale so if you boys know anything or have any other suggestion. Please lemme know.

Keep in mind this was just a car to make money not to invest into complications. But willing to pay up to 1000$ CAN for a good working tranny.

thanks

Well from what i undestand about that swap as I was talkin to a co-worker class A mechanic who does swaps regularly, that if and IF it does bolt up then thats great but the gear ratio in the car is not going to be the same but you may not notice much difference until a certian speed, but then you must be sure that the tranny can shift at the same points the computers is expecting or your going to throw codes which may or may not clear from the computer. If you dont care about this and they guarentee there work then go ahead but I would stick with K8 1.8 v6 tranny for best application as that is what came with the car if you dont want the potential nightmares as trannys are not like a battery where it comes out in 3 minutes if it doesnt work.

thanks anyways guys i was extremely lucky today to get one from a new shop that just opened up in Ottawa (Japan power), it was heaven walkin in there just seeing all the jdm motors, front clips, rims......... all for a good price. I paid 400$ for my transmission and it was off a motor that had maybe 30,000 kms, The motor was so clean it looked brand new + 90 day waranty. Anyways i would recommend it to anyone in the area and thanks again for the help.
