hey i want to set up a autocross/rally setup for my gs. 1.8 v6
i will prolly swap to klze and add a supercharger or turbocharger but which tranny will be effective for that setup mx-6 mtx tranny? 626?? or just beef up the stock 1.8 mtx tranny with the ze engine swap i know that the mx-6 and mx-3 tranny fits the same but the ratio of gears is diff but because the mx-6 is wider top end thats not good for auto x is it???
i am new to rallying so please post info i think closer short ratio is better for autox/rally but i dont know
opinons anyone ???

This has all been covered before and a search will reveal all of you answers. I can suggest that you focus on threads with "kiwi_MX3", and "Gro Harlem" posts in them, since they have have some pretty indepth knowledge in that regard. There are other's too, with similar intended set-ups that you will find during your search. It's time "MEX" to do a little homework on your own.

I believe this will entirely depend on the individual courses. It's best to have a tranny that you will not need to shift at all except perhaps on long straight aways. Some courses may benefit from a taller second, some may not. If you were really serious, I'd get one of each and get a layout of each course weeks in advance, and swap trannies as needed.

thx for info, i did a search but there was so many threads . alot to read but now. i can do more of a narrow search to find the answers thx
edit
wow so many posts to look for/ also another question right now its a sotck 1.8 v6 auto i am swapping auto to mtx this summer but i wanna do a ze after that too so first part of mod it will be running 1.8 v6 gs engine with a swaped mtx tranny but i heard the stock tranny for 1.8 v6 will burn out with a ze engine (dont know if its true, clutch upgrade?) i want my car to be street/rally/autox setup so which set up would work well
1.8 liter v6 with stock mtx tranny upgraded clutch and later on sc/tc
klze engine with mx-6 mtx tranny upgraded clutch later on sc/tc
klze engine with mx-3 stock tranny (upgrade gears/clutch and anything else)
which would be more better for my street/rally/autox
todo list
1.8 liter v6 with mx-6 tranny then swap 1.8 to klze upgrade clutch.gears.then sc or tc i dont want to swap a auto to mtx with the wrong tranny when i swap in the ze and have it burn out and think ze with wrong tranny more trouble more ya know i rather put in a tranny that will work well with the 1.8 for now and work even better with a klze engine upgrade
so in a nut shell which tranny will work with both 1.8 and ze engines and will work well with steet/autox/rally??

I did autox road course in November. That was my first. I plan to do more. Gro Harlem has done his a little more regularly.
As far as rally, I'm not so sure.

Any tranny will work. The gearing differences are not enough to affect you. "99.9% of the time it is the driver who cannot perform to the car's limits not the other way around" quote from a Pro SCCA show room stock class champ (2005) I started racing this year, (closed tracks with a large auto club) and I can testify that my MX beat me to death. It handleed very well and I didn't.
Take lessons from those who are pros or have alot of experience. They are your best lessons.
My only advice, if you spin out of controll, go "two feet in" meaning brake and clutch down, do not attempt to stear it will only make things worse. Trust me I learned by spinning that "two feet in" is the safest way to stop after loosing controll.
However, most AutoXs are small enough and at slow enough speeds that loosing controll is not followed by a long skid and a few balerina (sp?)moves. Meaning that a simple brake and straightening of the wheel will get you stopped without hitting anything.

Where to start, someone ask's what combo works, well....
http://www.geocities.com/evlmx3/gearing.wks
That will show you gear ratio's and speed and diff's have a play
for autocross a tourqy motor is better than a all out Hp monster
the basic's i would do is
koni inserts and lower springs
Strut bars front and rear
Mazspeed mount's
Oh and MX6 axles and 6ball Cv's as they are way supieor than the
3ball troqids found on the jspec.
Leave it at that and go and have a play for a year.

Does the MX-3 use the 3ball ? Also, will the mx-6 anxles and 6ball fit directly up to a stock 1.8 GS ?

Now you tell me. After I crashed my car through a fence at the track and completely thrashed my paint.

I've never been but I'm extremely anxious to go. One day when I actually have a weekend off I want to go, I've been wanting to go since I got my suspension done back in spring. If I do manage to get out one day (I wanna get my tranny fixed first tho this year, 3rd gear syncro is really hurting), I'll let you know. You can learn by my mistakes and if your feeling adventurous, ride shotgun. *crosses fingers to get job I applied to*

It was actually the last lap of a 15 minute run. I did fine on all my other laps .... never went into the runoff. But the last lap, a C5 Vette was trying to pass me, and I was trying to save face. So I pushed it beyond the limits, hit the runoff, and once I was on the wet grass, I couldn't really go anywhere. I should have tried pulling the front around with the gas, but hind sight is 20/20.
